Sorry Not Stang...94 Grand Cherokee Idles, but dies when given gas

Guys sorry..I also posted this on JeepsUnlimited.com, but I need to increase my chances of getting this figured out this weekend; i've been working on this stupid Jeep for about the last 8 weekends and i'm tired of it. I replaced intake gaskets on my 94 Grand Cherokee 5.2 L, put everything back and had a problem with a fuel leak at the rails, turns out i wasn't putting them back correctly. Got that figured out and the jeep will start and run, but if you give it gas, it revs and then dies and is hard to start again...but I keep cranking and it starts. It was having this problem before and was overheating to like 260*, so i replaced the thermostat, which then I broke a bolt off in the intake, which in turn led to replacing the intake gaskets when I had to pull the intake to get the bolt out. I've also replaced the water pump recently. I pulled the distributer to get the rotor off cause it was stuck (probably still on there from the factory), but I did mark it and thought I put it back where it was. Also, there's a steam coming from the motor, which could be gasket compounds burning off..i also threw some oil in the valve covers to lube it up a little. It is blowing smoke from the tail pipe in 50 degree weather, but my mom said that's just normal...otherwise it's got a head gasket leak. My question basically is...would it start and idle w/ the distributer off a little, but then die after giving it gas? It will rev, but then when I let off of the gas, it drops below idle RPM and dies and then it's hard to start again, but will after some cranking. My brother said maybe it's running rich causing it to die. Also, and this could be the problem, but I have one connector on the pass. side of the motor that I can't find the sensor for....it's in the wiring loom w/ the injectors, but I believe it's a female connector w/ 3 holes....anyone w/ a Grand Cherokee have an idea where this thing plugs in at? I'll looked at charts and i've looked all over for the connection. That could be the problem I guess, but i'm kinda doubting it.

I'll pull a plug tomorrow and see if it's soaked to see if it's maybe running rich, but other than that...

Seems like i'm right back at square one. Any ideas? If you need anymore info let me know. Please help ASAP.

thanks dude...like I said I posted at JeepsUnlimited.com first, but i'll give the site a try. The reason I posted it on Stangnet is because people know their stuff and this problem probably isn't unique to my Jeep; also there's a lot more people on Stangnet. Just to give you an idea, there are like 55 members on stangnet right now and like 5 combined at the other 2. Thanks though.

Sounds like the same problem I've been having lately... I'll crank the car, get out on the street, come up on a light, downshift, and as the rpms start coming down, put the clutch in and the rpms drop all the way down and stalls. Then I got crank it for about 4-5 secs (usually it's just turn key and it fires) then it cranks. Makes for lots of fun in traffic... hope someone helps ya out.

The same thing happened on my 97 Grand Cherokee, when the fuel pump/filter was dying. It would start and idle great, but as soon as i gave it gas it would buck and sputter and die. Then it was hard to crank over again but usually would. So it sounds to me like its a fuel problem. On the 94's is the fuel pump/filter one unit like on the 97s? If not maybe change the fuel filter.

hey! I did get a new fuel filter just haven't put it in yet...i'll try that...long shot, but not a bad idea none-the-less. I hope it's not the pump, but every thing else on it is breaking, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least. I fixed the thermostat housing leak today and now the radiator is leaking. Started it up though before the rad. leak and it ran and even gave it gas and it would idle down and ran fine...I ran jumping and screaming and eventually shut it off and it was hard to start again. It started, but eventually died out right after i noticed the rad. leak...put some more water in it and made sure the radiator was leaking, but geez...I like my Jeep and all, but this is a PITA
