I was driving to work last week and all of the sudden my car starts acting funny. When sitting at idle, the car sounds like it has a big cam in it and it will buck pretty badly just driving without my foot on the gas. I dumped the codes and I get a 12 Idle Speed Control motor or Air Bypass not controlling idle properly (generally idle too low) - ISC. The car sounds pretty bad until about 1500 rpms and then begins to shake around 2500-3000. I checked for vacuum leaks and found a few, now I am pulling 15 hg at idle. Any suggestions?

one more thing. I tried adjusting the timing and if I took it up past 20 it seemed to idle better. It sounds like detonation and it goes away with the higer timing, but i don't want to drive around with 25 degrees of timing. That just doesn't feel right.

Have you ruled out something mechanical, especially valve-train related? Is the 12 your only code? You said you corrected vac leaks...did you also check all wires and connections, especially near your headers?

I kid you not, 20 degrees plus. I brought it back down to 10 degrees, still sounds bad but that much timing worries me.

Could that IAB code be a white rabbit? Kinda sounds like a badly streched timing chain. Then again, i'm not much on troubleshooting. Just my two yen.
