spare 68 coupe body parts

Valued opinions please. I have a 68 coupe and am doing a cal special clone restomod. Have a spare 302 I could build or I could build up the original 289. My question is should I build the 302 and keep the stock original 289 and all the extra body parts in case I sold the car at some point or build the 289 and sell everything to recoup some expense. I will have a hood w/ turn signals, grill, trunk lid, end caps, original bucket seats and original wheels w/ gt hubcaps. All in great shape.

Mike with the mods you have planned for the car I don't think it will matter if you keep the the original engine or body parts. I sold all my old crap, I mean used parts, and made a pretty penny. I must have sold close to $1500-$2000 worth of parts that paid for the goodies you see. Just make sure that you have good fitting fiberglass and you are 100% sure you won't need the parts. I still have stuff in a box I am holding for that big what if. I even have my original grill that is in great condition. Just not very motivated any more to put the stuff on ebay.

it's always nice to have spare parts, especially nice originals, just in case. it's also nice to have an extra set of wheels for road duty or show duty as well. i still have my original GT wheels for my 69 GT, although without tires at the moment for some future shows where it i think it would be cool to show the car as an original vs a restomod. other than the wheels and side scoops the exterior of my car is basically stock but with some Boss 302 blackout paint on the hood, headlight buckets and tail panel, but the blackout hood hood was optional for the 69 GT's so even that isn't totally non-stock or at least non-correct, anyway.
