I have had two flat tires in the past two months. Replacements are not in stock at my Ford dealer or at tire dealers I have called, but have to be ordered from "the warehouse." I am someone surprised they are not in stock, because I have the standard Pirelli P-235/55ZR/17--nothing exotic. I would like to store a tire in the spare tire well that can be driven at more than 50 mph.
The spare is a T-185/60R17, which is inflated to 60 psi. Is the problem with replacing the temporary spare with a "real" tire the tire pressure? To the best of my knowledge, a "real" tire can't be safely inflated that high.
Does anyone have any ideas other than carrying a full size spare in the back seat? (I carry too much stuff in the trunk to carry a full size spare there, particularly on trips, when I would need the spare the most!)
Thanks for any ideas you might have.
