Will 6X8 speakers fit in the front and rear stock location's of a 1998 Mustang Convertible?

I only ask this as different audio sites are giving me conflicting information.

I'm also considering component front speakers and don't know what will fit in the stock tweeter location's by the side mirrors.

Car currently has the MAch 460 system in it and I'm considering relpacing everything, and then some!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks, but I want to know if 5x8's will fit. The other info I got was from Alpine saying that only 5 1/4" fits front and back.

As far as hacking crap out of the car to make something fit, I've done that before, and will do it again.

Any other info?

Thanks.

You could hack the back speaker enclousure and throw in a pair of 6.5 inch components, I was going to but I changed my mind and stuck with the 5.25 in the back.

I know in the verts, there is a speaker enclosure behind the rear quarter panels. It's made of plastic and I wouldn't have a problem with making a hole for 6.5" speakers, and then sealing off the tweeter holes for a surface mounted tweeter for a component type speaker.

My concern is that usually the difference between 5.25" and 6.5" speakers is about 40 watts. If I'm going to go through all the trouble of a complete stereo swap, then I might as well get the maximum bang for my buck.

It has been also 11 years since I put together my last stereo, and that one was pretty damned nice if I do say so myself. Any stereo that can dry the car by vibrating the water off of it is ok in my book!

Anyway, if no one can give me a definitive answer, then I'll just have to start pulling panels and doing some measuring for openings and depths.

Thanks guys.
