Speaker fitting help

I bought some new Pioneer 6x8 speakers for the rear of the GT the box says they are a direct fit. Anyway, I pulled the Grill and screwed the new speaker to it and tried to put it back in, but the speaker magnet hits the metal brace inside the opening. The metal brace is pretty thick and appears to be part of the hold down for the rear seatbelt. Has anyone else encountered this problem, if so what did you do to get them to fit? Thanks!

I just have a really dinky pen sized digital camera that does not take pics worth a crap. The speaker model # is TS-A6870R, I only tried fitting the Drivers side so far, but assume that the Passenger side is the same. The brace that the speaker is hitting is flat on top where the seatbelt mount attaches and then a vertical support comes straight down the middle off that and that is what the speaker magnet is making contact with.

theres not much clearance back there, try to shift the speaker so the magnet doesn't hit or get a pair of speakers with a smaller magnet.

On the passenger side there was enough room for the speaker, but on the drivers side I had to make 2 cuts into the brace and fold it over. I really did not want to do that, but no one will ever see it.

i had this same problum with the same speakers in my 91gt...i ended up selling the speakers and i bought some nice 6x9's and put them in boxes in the hatch area and left the factory speaker location empty. i used some speaker wire and extended the factory wire to reach, i just ran the wire out the side of the grills. you cant see the wire with the rear seats up

when i asked about this, i asked what speakers will fit in the rear and no one had a forsure answer so i just went with the 6x9's in boxes....seems odd to me that so meny people replace there factory speakers but yet no one has had this problum or not meny have?

i also thought of cutting that beam, but i figure its there for a reason..most likely structural strength which would really come in handy in a roll over and i wasnt willing to sacrifice my own safety just to get some speakers to fit

P.S. whats a good speaker to use for the doors?

That beam is there to support the rear seatbelt mount, I did not cut it out, I just put a 2 small cuts in it and then folded the metal over, so I did not weaken it very much at all. I dont like the fact that I had to do that though!

I could be wrong, but I doubt the 84s have 3 point seat belt in the rear.
