Hello Crew,

Seems like a lot of you have SPEC clutches. I am putting down 389RWHP and 424TQ. Any of you that have had both clutches please chime in. I am looking to replace my stock clutch, and was wondering which one of these to go with. The car is my daily driver, so I would like it to feel as close to stock as possible, but still handle spirited street driving. Also, if there are any other clutch recomendations, throw it in...

If your looking for close to stock the stage 2 is the way to go. I drove my buddies stang with the stage 3 and I defenitly could tell the diff. The stage 3 was more of an on off clutch than the stage 2. My stage 2 is fairly close to stock and doesnt tire your leg out for dailly driving. I would however get the ford throw out bearing instead of the crappy spec one. My TOB started chirping about 50 miles after install so i wasted more time replacing it with a ford one. hope this helps

the guy who i go to uses SPEC exclusively, and he told me SPEC uses FORD TOB's.

I am pretty sure that the TOB that came with my clutch was not from ford. I can't remember if they looked different because it has been a while since I replaced it and really wasn't looking all that hard. But I don't think I'm the only one out there that has had a problem with the spec TOB. They make a great clutch and mine works flawlessly now that I replaced the TOB.

if you are going to be doing a lot of launching and powershifts ( pretty much if you drag race) then I would go with the stage 3 clutch at your power level. As somebody already said it will be a little harder on the leg than stock. I aslo say use the Ford TOB, and I think you should change out the pivot ball and inspect the clutch fork while in there.

I have a Stage II in my GT and it feels noooooowhere near stock. It's stiff as hell and grabs quick. I went from driving home in the Cobra one day and took the GT out and I could barely drive it without stalling at first. I also forgot how stiff it was.

If you're worried about pedal feel, I would not get a Spec. It grabs good though.

I have the stage three in my current setup and it kills the legs in traffic, but def. a great clutch to have with your power levels, also op for the flywheel while your at it. Stif clutch but you can feel it working very very well no play at all.

I have never had a problem with my spec killing my legs while driving the pedal has a little bit faster grab than the stock clutch but i dont think you will find a single disc performance clutch that wont have a little more of an on off fealing than the stock one.

The CF is as buttery soft as stock. If I were to replace mine, I'd get another in a heartbeat. I've had two of those clutches, a CF II and a DF. They felt the same, since they have the same PP.

I have a spec stg 3 and im lovin it :D . Definatly not and ON/OFF clutch...but you cant just set there and ride it either. Just give it some gas and let off, it will slip some and then as the speed of the flywheel and clutch meet, it will just fully grab....but your already moving at that point and its not very noticable. Just take off kinda quick and it would be tough to tell the difference if riding along.

For the power it holds, I think its very tame. My leg does get tired in traffic though....its pretty darn heavy after a while. So if your in alot of traffic daily, I dont recommend it...durring breakin its fairly grabby, but with well over 1K on mine its feeling more and more like stock on the shifts and taking off. So if your willing to let it breakin before any traffic, it will probably be fine.

I have driven a few cars with the centerforce clutches while light on leg they still grab in about the same amount of space as my spec stage II. Its all in preference both the centerforce DF and the spec stage II are good up to around 500 hp both are about 50/50 as far as people liking them or not. anything after a stage II or a dual friction you need to start looking into upgrading other things before you break or tweak something in the driveline.
