I have an 88 speed density stang, and I want to convert it to mass air, but I want to change the complete harness and not just buy a kit where I cut and splice. I want to do this the easist way possible. What would that be? A friend changed his 87 over but went to a 91 harness and he changed everything from headlight harnes to tail light harness and cluster. If I find a 89 harness will this work without having to take the dash out?

you dont cut and splice. You remove the pins on the eec plug and put new wires and pins in and solder the ends, I did mine with the interactive technoligies kit and it worked great. it took me 1 1/2 hrs to do it. I wouldnt jack with the harness its not worth it.

I'm with droptop on this one. Just use the kit. Much easier....

i changed mine over with the kit and i wouldn't dare change an entire wire harness when your only moving a few wires around.

I understand that would be a easier way, but I have been having a problem with my car and I narrowed it down to the wiring harness, maybe a bad connection or broken wire. Thats why I wanted to know which harness to use.

Copied from bbunt302:

Just for reference, here's a list of all the compatible years:

89 harness should work for 86-89 as long as you're using mass air.
90 harness will only work in a 90. (B/c of air bags and dual dash connectors)
91 through early 92 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under driver's seat)
Late 92 through 93 harnesses should be compatible (single dash connector, fuel pump relay under the hood)

I purchased the mass air conversion kit from Ford Racing but have not installed it yet. The kit comes with an adapter so there's no splicing. Just plug and play.

The instructions call for re-adjusting the fuel regulator and timing once installed. I need to replace my stock regulator with an ajustable one and replace my harmonic balancer because the timing numbers are worn off. This is why I haven't done the conversion yet.

The kit is the way to go but it is expensive. I paid around $500 for the kit which includes the ECU for an automatic.

I converted my 86 w/ the wire harness from IST. It was pretty easy.I'm w/ the other guys. This way saves alot of headaches. If you are having problems w/ your wire harness just get a haynes manual and look at the wire diagrams and trace the wires to whatever isn't working right.I helped my friend convert a 87 4cyl. to a 5.0 and changing the wire harness was nightmare
