Well I think just about everyone on here has a different opinion about the two sytems, I always thought that MAF was just plain better, but now from some of the things I have read it almost seems that Speed Density isnt that bad . My own car is a Speed Density so maybe sumone could clear this up for me. Thnx

the more you search, the more you find.
stock for stock, SD is a little faster/more powerful. but once mods get heavy (esp cams with diminished vac), MAF is more adaptable on its own.

Your best course of action is going to be to not worry about it until you get to the point where it becomes an issue. If you're thinking of swapping over to MAF just for the sake of doing it then you're wasting your time and money. If you plan on swapping to cam that has lots ov overlap then it'll probably worth it to change to MAF. With no other changes to your combo other than MAF, you will likely end up with less power than what you started with due to the restriction and turbulance of the mass air meter. Probably not the answer you were looking for but there's more to your question than just "what's the best".

I was at a Mopar show last week and I was looking at a 98 Viper. I happened to notice the lack of MAF sensors on the air intake tubes. So I guess the viper is SD, seems to work.

Daggar, I was reading you sig and it says "SD (+30 HP)". I was just curious as to how you calculate that?

88 GT, nice time. My stock SD car should do that with traction. I see your tires, but what are you running for rear suspension? I have been dreaming of a 2.0 short time, my best is 2.32 that 1.8 seems so out of reach.

Jerry... That's the estimate of loss I'd have with my current combo (specifically my Kenne Bell) if I were to convert to mass air as given by Bob Kennedy at Kennedy's Dynotune. He actually refused to sell me a MAF conversion for my combo and showed me dyno numbers for several cars who's only change was MAF from SD. Instead of converting, we went with a custom chip. The numbers varied from car to car based on what their combos were and 30 HP was about the average.

Thats pretty cool. The chip prolly cost less than the conversion+ labor anyway. He seems like a pretty honest guy to deal with. My guess is that he isnt in FL. Thats OK, there are good shops down the street from me in Orlando when and if I get the cash to build mine up like that.

Me either. Only time I get idle surge is when the car is cold and the defroster is on.

Then your IAC or something related to it isn't fully doing its job to compensate for the load.
