Speedhut Gauges/Tachs???

Hey All,
Anyone have any experiences, good/bad with the Speedhut stuff? Some pretty cool features/options like choice of face/pointer color and illumination colors and font choices. I wanna know if they work well. According to the lady that answers the phone, the founder of the company is the Grandson of the guy who started Autometer and wanted to provide options that Grandpa wasn't interested in. Supposedly designed, engineered and made in the USA.

Gauges, Custom Gauges, Tachometers, Speedometers, Shift Light, Pod

Any thoughts/comments would be great.

Never heard of them...but that GPS speedo looks freakin sweet! I bought some gauges off of ebay for my pillar pods and got GlowShift crap....neither gauge worked (I have hooked up coutless gauges in my life) talked witht he guys at GlowShift and they wanted to SELL me new sending units....sheesh, went to autozone and got some sunpro specials, work like a champ...anyway please repost if you try them out, I would love to put aftermarket gauges in my 67 as well.

Yeah, my initial plan is to get a 2 1/16" tach to put in where the clock would go. After I see how well their mounting set up works in the cluster and bezel, I may go with a quad where the fuel & alt gauges are now. The quad can be ordered with a different line up of gauges if desired for a small fee. If I like their stuff, I may upgrade to a full size tach. My eventual compliment between the dash and the 67-68 "Shelby-ish" console that I am starting to build is:
>Speedo
>Tach
>Fuel
>Temp
>Oil Pressure
>Volts
>Wide Band/Air Fuel Ratio
>Vacuum
>Clock
Console prices are just plain out of line/ridiculous, especially by the time you add in all the bits and pieces, not to mention, the 67-68 standard OEM consoles, IMO, are a total waste of space for what they accomplish, even though the roll up door looks cool. Sorry for the long ramble, I'll keep you posted.

I couldnt agree with you more on the 67-68 console...nothing but a play pretty, but I do have one and my wife wants it to stay in there, soooooooo, happy wife = happy life. Ill just get me a saddle console to sit over the top of it. I thought about removing my console door and putting a tach there, but right now I have a bank of 12v outlets there that are really handy for ipod, phone, etc...Anyway, keep up with the costs, because I know I can drop a grand on an already assembled gauge kit with sending units, wiring, the works and it looks great...but 1000 bucks!! yuck.

I have the revolution series in my car. 8 guages and the bezel and was into it about 850 bucks. Just watch for sales they throw with the 15% off.

Do the gauges work well? How is the quality of manufacture? How is the customer support, if needed? They are a tiny bit less $$$ than some of the top brands, but with the available options to get what you "want" instead of what they "want to sell you", the value seems pretty good if they function well.

Those gauges look nice Blown65. Did they supply the bezel? I looked on the website and didn't see any bezels for old stangs.
Is that a Ford racing tach, or one of theirs?

That is all of their gauges. Only one issue I've had and its not the gauges I don't think, I have some interference going on with my speedo LCD portion and the ignition box. Its fine till the car starts so its maybe a ground or something. It was fine till I put the MSD Digital 7 box in, with the 6AL no issues.

I've talked to them a couple times on programming the gauges and some confusion on my part and they were always very good about getting back to me. (usually dealt via email)

The Bezel itself was off Ebay, its ok but not great. For the 40 bucks or whatever I got it for I cant complain.

Really I have no complaints and would do it all again.

Oh, and one very nice thing, these are all high quality pressure transducer gauges. Much more accurate than you get with autometer at least from my experience with the two.

Exactly the kind of definitve, positive and thoughtful comments I was hoping for! Really great variety of options, as evidenced by your "Ford Racing" tach and the pony on your speedo, and both graphics even illuminate at night! It would be nice if their "pony" was a bit more accurate, but, oh well. My first order is in with them.

That's the same bezel I've got (except mine has the "chrome" outer rim) and the same speedo and tach. I've been debating the utility of the smaller programmable gauges. Any difficulty in programming for low fuel warning and so on?

I am very happy with the set they did for the '66

Pros:
Vastly customizable
great quality
dimming gauge face (using the headlight dimmer)

Cons:
more wiring than standard gauges due to the hall effect sensors, and dimming LEDs

Before ordering a set, I'd suggest sitting down with the stock gauges, and a catalog of after-market gauges and really think about the details... Do you want a High beam indicator in the speedo? Do you want remote or face mounted switches (some gauges like the 2-5/16" and 4" and larger speedo have remote switches). What details do you want on the faces? They can do a lot more than what is on their website. In fact some of the stuff they can do, I found out when looking through some kit car magazines. They make gauges for different kit car companies too.

They added the LED package that comes on the FFR gauges (high beam, and turn signals).
I'm using the turn signal LEDs for the Roll Lock indicator, and the CEL for the EEC-IV.
The pressure transducers are all hall effect, and come with shielded cables.
They sent an email with proofs of the gauge faces so I could see how the "Lemans" stripes would look before ordering.
(BTW: there is no tach in this set, because I have the Shelby dash mounted version).

I got the bezel from Mustangs Unlimited. I believe it was around $90 or so. The quality of the bezel is pretty cheap and I was a bit surprised it cost $90. However, it does the job and doesn't look too bad once it is installed.

I searched around for a long time trying to find a 6-gauge bezel that I liked and looked stock. There are that that many choices to pick from. You either spend $75-$100 for one of these cheap aftermarket bezels or you fork over $500 for one of the billet aluminum ones from JME or a similar company.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS. I could not find the combination I wanted in Autometer gauges. I thought I was going to have to settle for something in their lineup that was close but not what i wanted. With the Gaugehut gauges being customizable, I can get exactly what I want. this is what I love about forums. Thanks again for posting this, I had no idea this company existed.
