The PO of my 66 coupe took the speedo cable off the back of the instrument cluster, and now it is swinging about under the hood. I've looked for an obvious hole in the firewall to poke it through, but I can't see one.

Where is it supposed to pass through the firewall?

If I"m thinking right it comes in low on the firewall but goes through sort of a tunnel and comes out right behind the cluster. I'm not at my car right now to look but that is where mine went before I switched to a electric speedo.

It loops around above the steering column, coming down the firewall on the driver's side, then comes across to the right entering a hole between the accelerator and the column near the floor. From the bottom it comes out near the frame rail and routes fairly directly to the tail section of the transmission.

Thanks Krash.

So, is the hole just punched through the sheetmetal, or is it a 'tunnel'? I can't see anything on my car except for a largeish hole that the throttle linkage passes through - I could have been welded up I suppose...

It's items like this that just eat time out of your project!

Look waaay lower - below where the column passes through the firewall, towards the doghouse, near where the firewall transitions to floor. I can't give you an exact discription of the hole, as a PO glassed the entire floor and doghouse, but this is where my cable vanishes.

OK, I found a hole under where the steering column comes through - is that it? The PO has repaired the floor, and if there was anything below that point, it aint there now...

I thought there was a small tube the cable went through, designed to prevent a kink or hard-turn. Maybe that is what was meant by tunnel?

Electric speedos are teh L337!

Yeah, I was looking for a 'tunnel' after that post, but all I can find is a hole just big enough for the nut to fit through...

WTF do I need a speedo for anyway, it's only ever going to be driven like I stole it...?
