Speedo Problem

My speedometer needle bounces as I accelerate and when I am at a stop light it doesn't go down to 0,it stays at about 10.otherwise the speedo is accurate.I had the cable lubed and it didn't solve the problem.Any ideas on how to fix?

did u check the plastic gear in the trans the speed o cable attaches to it and it goes inside the trans

Yes.I changed the speedo gear when i changed my rearend to 3.55's.The speedo problem existed before and after.

i had the same problem my speed gear the plastic one would get rounded out in the middle so i think mine problem is in the trans maybe u have the same problem

its the speedo cable.ive had the same problem twice.the first time the cable sat on the h-pipe and a hole burned in it causing the fluid to leak out gradually,the next time it just got hot sitting close to the exhaust as i found a way to reroute the new one so it wouldnt touch.it worked great until then.now im on my third cable in a year and its starting to do it again.maybe ill just start going by my rpms.hopefully no tickets.lol

mabey different lube in the cable? I used the kind that came /w teh cable... but it still bounces sometimes. New gear, cable and vss AND speedo. I'm fixing to pull the whole thing again (to do fog light fix) and am going to try shooting lithium grease down the cable this time.

I have the SAME problem with my 1986, the Speedo wont go down to 0mph and it bounces
