Speedometer cable!!

So I bought a speedometer cable and a shop manual, i pulled out the old speedometer cable and to my surprise reddish tranny fluid started spewing out! I was like wah!!! and i pushed it back in and re tightened it. I'm freaked out... Where do i go from here?
Which transmission fluid would i go and pick up? The shop manual says Rotunda Automatic Transmission fluid... Where do i get that at pepboys i didn't see any transmission fluid just gear fluid, is there any specific weight i should use like for oil?
And which grease or oil at all do i use to lubricate the new speedometer cable?
When replacing the speedometer cable do i let all the fluid come out?
Sorry for the very low level intelligence questions, it's a learning curve =(

If I remember correctly you have a C4. C4s take type F or type AF automatic trans fluid.

If you jack up the drivers side of the car then not much fluid should come out. Also, do it when the trans is cool. Just replace the thing as fast as possible, put a drip pan down just in case.

It's the automatic stock tranny, I believe the C4, It just plopped out i was like uh oh!
I think what i'll do is take out the old cable, put a bucket or some kind of can under it take off the gear, put it on the new cable, stick it back in and pour whatever came out, check the level and slowly add more.

I'll check autozone tomorrow for Type F fluid

One more question. When my speedometer did work it would
1. bounce around,
2. it'd be totally off, it would tell me I was going 80 but on the freeway semi's would be passing me. I've got the stock pizza cutter tires with dog dish hub caps... Is the speedometer gear wrong? Might as well replace that at the same time. I'm going to replace the rims in the near future with Foose Nitrous Legends hopefully 17x 8s

You might need a new speedo gear if the inside of the gear is chewed up where the square part slides into the gear or if your gear has messed up teeth. When you change your wheels out, you will need a new gear for sure.
