Speedometer Problem

I just bought a 88 Gt from a buddy of mine and the speedometer doesn't work the tach works but the speedomter doesn't he said it needs a speedo gear its got 3.73 gears in the back and he swapped over to the 140mph gauges. How hard is it to put in the speedo gear and do you think that will fix it or could it be something else? And where can I find what gear I need to get for my rear gears and tire size any help would be appreciated.

The speedo gear is behind the dash cluster, it is not hard to do just takes time. I do not know the exact one you need but it is an easy swap.

My speedometer doesn't work either. I just need to put a U-Clip on the end of the cable that plugs into the transmission, I've just been lazy. So, if it's not in the dash you might want to check under the car make sure everything is plugged in correctly.

Only speedo gear I know of that you can change sticks in the side of the transmission.

ummm, yeah. Both the driven and the drive gears are housed in the driver's side of the tailshaft of the tranny.
