Do you mean it runs fine for the first 4-5 minutes or so after a cold start?
If so, then the trouble is after it goes into closed loop and is probably sensor related.
Is the CEL lit? I'd try pulling the codes first and see if any shows up.

Might be a faulty TPS or even an O2 sensor. Don't pay for new parts yet though, before you read the code(s).

I agree. Even if your CEL isn't lit you might still have codes stored. Definitely check them before you spend any time or money doing anything else.Is the CEL lit? I'd try pulling the codes first and see if any shows up.
Well i went to schucks and the code reader said code 90. Now after driving it ,it is getting worst even at an idol it has a miss? I looked at the manual and there is no code 90? And at schucks they say call dealer for code. I called the dealer and they dont know cause there system dosent go back far enough? I tried to look at the code link you gave me and it dosent work, as far as seeing what code numbers mean what. You really have to let it warm up for this to do this. How do you adjust the timing on the coil pack engines? peace

John, the timing isn't adjustable on the 92.
You're right, there isn't a code 90, or at least one that I could find. I'd have another store read it again, to confirm that's really a bad code. Shucks may have had a bad code reader.
Since your trouble starts when it goes into closed loop, it's almost certain a faulty sensor is the cause.
Code 91 is an O2 sensor 'always lean' code. That's the closest to a code 90 I could find.

Yeah same here thats the closest i could find also? So why does it have timming marks then? I'll try another store. peace

Ford probably put timing marks on the crank for diagnostic purposes; you can still check the timing even though you can't adjust it. The ECM uses inputs from the CPS, TPS, MAF and MAP to set the best timing for any given engine load.Yeah same here thats the closest i could find also? So why does it have timing marks then? Any luck on the code? I still can't find a definition for a code 90. Those are generic codes though, and I can't figure out why one number (90) would be skipped.....?
It must mean something, maybe a factory testing code....?
Since it's in the number range to be O2 sensor related, you might try checking the sensor wiring to make sure it's not burned from the exhaust manifold, loose or broken.....
If you're good with a multimeter, the O2's not hard to test, just 3 wires to check on a 92.

I will never in my life trust schmucks auto parts since my first, and only trip there recently. im usually an autozone or knectchs guy, but that day, they had a better price. still was never worth it. my 12yr old daughter could help me out on my car questions better.

Mah no luck yet. I just put in a new o2 about 6-8,000 miles ago so i wouldnt think that would cause it? I have a guy hooking me up with a TPS for free so i'll try that. How do you check an o2 with the meter? peace

Checked the o2 sencer and checked fine. I'm leanning towards a falty sencer somewhere? I drive it and after it gets really warmed up it does this? I also noticed that the tach flickers a bit, well kinda when it starts doing this it does. Nothing major just like maybe 25-50 RPM's. Almost like a back firing threw the intake. Runs like **** like on only 1/2 the cylinders but still gets up to speed? Can coil packs be tested? What about the cat would it going bad or clogged cause this? I just went threw emissions last year and passed perfectly, we have some of the toughest emisions in the u.s. Any other directions or ideas would be great? peace

Replace your ICM (Ignition Control Module) and I am sure it will stop. I had the same thing happen to mine a few years back. The ICM is about $115 and located on the lower intake manifold.

Isnt there a way for the shops to check it first? peace
