Springs and 17" wheels

I havea 91GT with 95 GT tri-bar wheels. I think they're 17x8's. This weekend I am upgrading the rear control arms and was wondering what everyone thought about a spring swap at the same time. I am running the springs that came with the car and at a level stance there is about 1-2 inches between thewheels and the fenders. Right now the only rubbing I have is in extreme turns like when parking. I am pleased with the handling of the car spring-wise, so I am not sure if there is any benefit. On the other hand, I really wouldn't know good from bad at this point as I am a Mustang newbie. Any opinions?

I went with the Bullitt springs on my '88. I too have the tri-bars you speak of. I also have Factory Five upper and lower rear arms. I would do the springs at the same time (you're already there). Depending on what your ultimate plans for the car is...will depend on which springs to use. Look into spring rates, # of coils, free length of spring...etc...

The more research you do the better off you'll be in the end. I've seen posts by guys that put brand "x" spring on, then a few weeks later switched them out with something else..only to switch them again...what a waste of time. It took me 6 month's to finally decide on what spring to use, I don't plan on changing them while I own the car.

with 17x9's you could run into problems with the wheel touching the inner fender on a stock rear end. if you run disc's on the back and it makes the axle longer, you prolly could run them.

i put on longer studs and put a spacer on the drum and run cobra r's no problem.

You shouldn't have any problems. Might as well get it out of the way while you are there and can afford it!
