My left front spring on my 1995 Mustang GT vert, split intwo the other night while I was driving. i don't know how that happens, but whatever. What I'm wondering is, how much is it to replace it with factory springs? I went a local place and the guy said 450 - 550 just for the front two, replacing it with factory springs. Is that a good price or no? I have NO IDEA!

Are you saying that price to install them? I got all 4 ford racing lowering springs for $139.00. So even at that price another $400 to install seems steap to me. Especially for just the front. I'd suggest shop around a little if your not comfortable doing it yourself.

that is way too high for two factory fronts installed. they are crazy as hell. Shop around to find a better deal.

That is waaay too much just to install two front springs. You should definitely shop around. Where do you live? Maybe someone here can reccomend a good place to go, or try posting in the local boards here.

in the NC area? if you are, i can drop it for you. get the steeda sport springs. only like $169 now. no sense in going back to stock. stock sucks

Springs are easy, that seems a bit high, even though shops have to make a living too. Do like was mentioned earlier and shop around for a quality place to do the install. Try the dealer even.

Chit...I have a set of stockers upstairs in the garage...For 100.00 I'll install all 4 for ya....Bring it on over....

Thanks for the info guys; I thought it was a bit high. The guy, who looked at it for me, is my cousin's BF, and they don't have spring compressors at his shop so he told me to go to a place where he always goes to for springs. The guy told me that it’s a 900 job (because it’s a 3 hours of labor and its very dangerous), and he's giving me a deal for 500. I called up local ford dealer, and my shocks are $97.00 each. They didn't say how much install would be over the phone. I was looking online and found Steeda (I think that’s the name) and Ford Racing lowering springs for like 180 - 260 for all four. I don't have the money right now to do too much to it, right now I can afford to just change the springs. What springs would you recommend to install (take into consideration for the time being they will have to be with the factory shocks)? I apologize if these are stupid questions, but I’m still a beginner. I live in Boston if anyone has any idea of where I could get this done.

Find a local Mustang performance shop and get some Ford B or C springs if you don't want anything too agressive. Labor should be cheap.......maybe an hour.

Steeda's, H&R, Eibach, and others really require better shocks and struts........not expensive, but it does add up. There is a Bullit kit that you may want to really consider from Gene Evans Ford: www.gefracing.com

Whatever you do......don't go with that first offer in your original post. Don't buy stock springs, either......just a waste of good mod money.

This kit seems like a steel, is it any good? How much you think it would be to install? I could wait a week and get this instead.

the sway bars will be the costly part of the labor. oh, and you dont need spring compressors to lower our cars. our springs dont go around the struts or shocks. tell him to eat it

When I had my springs installed at the local ricer shop (dont ask why they were installed thered), they only charged me for one hour of labor.

wow, at that rate just pick up a set of used mustang springs from a junkyard, and install em yourself.


For someone with no experience, this is probably a 3 hour job. which doesnt take anything more then your basic hand tools and a prybar.

Dangerous? WTF... if you have any bit of common sence, theres no way a spring install can be dangerous ( unless your an idiot)

I'm thinking of maybe attempting to do it myself, any suggestions? Also if you don't need a Spring compressor how do you take the springs off?

Dangerous? If he can't do a spring swap safely, you don't want him wrenching on your car. Yes, springs are inherently dangerous because of the potential energy they store. But if he doesn't have the common sense to understand how to work with them he probably doesn't have the sense to draw a correlation between draining the oil and needing to put oil back in.

$300 an hour for labor? Frig me!

You don't need a compressor.

1. Support the car on jackstands by the front subframes. Be sure to support it a bit higher than normal as you're going to need extra room for the control arm to swing down.

2. Remove the wheels.

3. Unbolt the sway bar from the control arms and swing it out of the way

4. Support the front control arm with a hydraulic jack and take the weight off of it.

5. Remove the brake caliper and hang it off of something with wire so that the weight of the caliper isn't supported by the brake line. Damage to the brake lines can occur if you don't.

6. You can either unbolt the two bolts attaching the strut to the spindle or the one bolt securing the strut to the CC plate. If you unbolt the spindle, take great care to control the spindle as it will be able to flop around freely.

7. SLOWLY SLOWLY SLOWLY -- Lower the hydraulic jack so that the control arm swings downward.

8. Once the spring is no longer exerting any pressure on the control arm, use a prybar to pop out the spring. CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION -- Be sure that the spring is fully extended. Look for the control arm to no longer be supported by the jack and able to swing fairly free by hand. Common sense applies here. If it looks.feels like the spring is still under compression, it probably is and can easily kill you. Stay aware of what you're doing.

9. Install the old rubber isolators on the new spring and install in in the spring seats. Be sure to place the pigtail (the end of the spring) between the two holes in the lower spring seat.

10. Slowly jack the control arm back up, being sure the spring seats properly.

11. Reattach the strut. If you opted to unbolt it from the CC plate, carefully guide it into place as you lift the control arm.

12. Reattach the brake caliper.

13. Repeat steps 4-12 for the other side.

14. Attach the sway bar.

15. Put the wheels back on.

16. Set the car down.

17. Get an alignment.

OK NOW WHERE THE F_CK DO I GET FACTORY SPRINGS? Does anyone know what the spring number is for a 1994 ford mustang GT convertible? Because the people at 2 ford dealerships have no idea! One said it could take up to 6 months to get them. I just need two factory front springs for a 1994 mustang GT, vert.

For stock take offs, MPS is your friend. This is their spring page. Give them a call to confirm the GT and vert springs are the same.

my advice to you is to just upgrade to aftermarket springs RIGHT NOW. In the long run you will thank us for this suggestion b/c you wont have to spend the money and it will look better. Eibachs are fairly cheap ~150 for all four and many people here have them if you have questions

no sence in wasting the money at MPS for some used or new springs

by the way, vert and coupe springs i'm pretty sure have a different compression rate, although the eibachs had the same part numbers... hmmm, i dunnno now
