Squeezing out all that you can get from stock heads/intake

There is more to what's under the hood that makes great track times. I hear "I was running XX.xx with only _______ ________ and stock _________ . What they leave out is the other parts that got them there.

First of all, get the car to use the power it has. What good is a powerfull engine if you can't hook it? I have seen so many people who have to feather the throttle half way down the track and thier answer to getting better times is to get more power out of the engine.
Get some slicks or at least some decent rims and tires and a good suspension and that can make all the difference.
Then a good gear to manipulate the power the engine makes.

Also when drag racing, how about reduce how much your dragging down the track? Weight reduction as well as weight placment can have a great effect.

Most of all, learn how to drive it right! A 11 second car with a 15 second driver is only going to run 15's. Some people, I see them run and I feel sorry for the car's himilulation. They either take off like they are in a school zone with a cop on the other side of the intersection, or they start to spin and don't let off until the tires catch up and say "I can't get traction". If they ever have to drive in snow, I'm staying inside. Then some people they go to shift, you can count "one-two-three" before they get to the next gear. When the car is out of gear, it is not accelerating!

:hail2: tell it like it is! My car has gone 12.2 and my best in it is 13 flat....... so go figure! peace

Im trying to get into the 12s on stock heads and Im having a hard time. The best I could do so far is a 13.4. That is with a cam and intake too!

I've scene H/C/I strokers that can't even break those times. What is thier answer to why they are runnning bad.... "Needs more power" and I'm looking at thier 2.6 60ft time....

What's better... a 9mm in the head or a 44mag that misses?

I ran 11.50s in high school on bone stock heads n/a running 12s aint **** on stock heads

I would LOVE some proof of this. you have 4 posts to your name, and claim times that are attainable with the BEST set up possible. Not only that but you claim you did this in HS... I have a mid 12 second stock suspension, E7, stock cam, stock bottem end car, and get BS calls all day long. I would love to hear how you did this, and hear about your magazine articles, and tons of info on you, as IF you did it, there would be a lot of press about it!

We have a GT40P combo that went 7.481 @ 90 (about 11.6-11.7 in the 1/4, AND we did it into a 20+ mph headwind, which was the reason Etown wouldnt let us go a full 1/4) which also has a stock cam, and an UNported cobra intake!

I know what it takes to run a number, and although it wasnt too hard, an 11.5 with a set of stock E7s isnt something that happens to HS kids... Even the fastest NA E7 cars I know of only went 11.0-11.2s at best, with cutsom cams and a lot of work...

BULLS**T, thats about all I have to say!!!

You will be close to the limits of the 19's , however you can still use them..! You need to be able to tune!! YES an adjustable reg is almost required.. cool??

Just me..................................

Thumper

I run 19s and have NO issues with fuel. I run 40 psi and it seems to be fine. Im willing to bet on a set of 24s I could see more mph, but I doubt it would go any faster. My dads 11 second car runs on 24s and doesnt seem to be at the limit...

I think with the right tune a mid to high 12 second car would be fine on 19s, and 24s should be good into the 11s!

200 shot maby? Never said N/A or not. :D

My motorcycle tuning buddy refused to let me install my GT40-P heads on my 306 until I ported the exhaust and matched the lower intake.Cant tell how much power it makes(260?),it makes good power after about 2700rpm but it wont scare you (stock 88 SD cam) through an AOD.

Actually he did say n/a... he said he went 11.5s with bone stock heads, n/a, back in High School. And I said your lying, unless you have some badass proof of that! Unless he means 11.5s in the 1/8!

A guy told me once he ran 6.90's in the 1/8thwith a bone stock notch because the engine had 200K miles and was "loose" so it made it faster. I never talked about cars with him again.

I agree, 11.5's in the 1/8th, maby.

I remember some ricers that showed up at track and were so hyped up because they were running 12's, then this guy busted their bubble when he told them it was an 1/8 mile track. :D

i can see 12's stock heads.. but i fully agree with the driver.. not to gloat, but i CAN drive.. i've been racing since i was 8.. so half my life (im 16 1/2). Going to just throw some 3.73s, take out some more weight.. and see what happens. At this point, it'll be a 70mm tb, electric fan, aluminum radiator, smog delete, O/R H pipe, flows w/dumps, and 3.73s with the car on my ET streets i have laying around.. we'll see what happens. I just want to break 8's and atleast be a reasonably strong car for what it is. I'll pull out my tire prep and see if i cant get it to hook even better heh.. prep it in some goat pee, it oughta stick pretty damn good

Yeah driving is fine, I can drive ANY car hard and have almost every best track pass in every car I have driven, but having untouched heads, and all motor going mid 11s is something even the best of the best cant do. I rarely if ever call BS, as if theres a smalll chance it can be done I believe it... but an 11.5 is fast with a H/I car, let alone one on stock E7s... I know a guy who owned one of the fastest E7 cars in the country, and he went low 11s with fully done E7s and all the supporting mods in a race chassis!

agreed!

all you really have to do it get the intake ported and polished and get the vales set larger so it is in the 200cc's get the valves tri cut get a good cam and pretty much wanna go with all egal internals with around 11 compression and its very possible

Quote 'If they ever have to drive in snow, I'm staying inside." Staying away even in the rain is a good idea!
Running in the eighth mile is also a great way to reduce your times..;-)

Seriously, if these parts are all breathing better, adding a set of 24 lb injectors, a matching C&L MAF, and a bigger TB (whatever brand you like the whistle of at idle) with the upper intake throat matched is not out of line.

"similar threads" strikes again
Between that and new people that find an obscure thread from a decade or more ago via Google, join the site, and reply to it... we'll never run out of recycleable content.

:SN: Doing our part to help the environment by recycling threads.

But... just to add some fuel to this decade+ old smoldering fire... I've run 12s on D5AE smog-era heads with a LOT of work done to them. Doing it with E7s or GT40/P heads ain't :poo:.
