Whenever I have my timing set to 14 degrees my car will often stall when I come to a stop. It will also pop a good amount when accelerating. But when I have my timing advanced to around 18 degrees, it won't hardly ever stall, and never pops when accelerating. Whats causing me to have to run that high of timing just to make my car idle and run correctly?

you need the buy my Romac balancer, thats why

It should run best around 10-14*... 18* seems alittle steep. I know mine was real picky with timing.. The diference between 2* would make a large impact on idle and driving quality.. If it likes 18*, and your sure that your getting a correct reading, then by all means keep it at 18*. If your balancer is shot, more then likely your readings will be off.

The balancer is still in good condition so I'm not getting a false reading... So is this just strictly a timing issue and nothing else?

Have you ever had the distributor out of the car? How many miles on the engine. Maybe a stretched timing chain? More info.

The distributer has been out many times, but its in the correct position. Theres 121k miles and I put a new timing chain on at the end of december.
