Stalling when downshifting, suggestions?

I do have a small surging idle, so I still have to go through the checklist, but what sensor controls keeping the RPM's up when depressing the clutch to change gears?

During downshifting or when coming to a stop at say, a toll booth, the car drops the rpm's very low, and at times just flat out stalls.

My old Z24 did that to me it was the fact I had pretty well ran it out of oil ......went home dumped a litre in it drove uptown and got a 4 litre jug and a filter and was good for another few miles lol

Did the computer say anything was wrong (codes?) I had one Mustang that would do the exact same thing, but I never got around to fixing it before it was gone.

My wild guesses would either be the TPS or the IAC.

hahaha it definately isnt oil. I run mobil 1 synth and I check it religiously.

I havent pulled the codes yet, but the funny thing is, the check engine light will come on very rarely, but then go off and stay off, yet the problem will occur with the light off.

I'm going to start going through the normal surging idle stuff, but I have heard there was a sensor that kept the rpm's up when the car is in motion yet the clutch was engaged.

I was thinking IAC/TPS as well, both are old and it wouldnt hurt to check them.

The VSS sensor is supposed to keep the idle RPM's up when you slow down. If it is bad, it will set code 27 or 29.

where is the vss located? I just started having the same problem with my car when I sink the clutch in it dies down and starts idling up and down it may be a pms adjustment or that vss sensor, not sure because I haven't run the codes yet. But just wondering where it's at

i'm having a similar problem, i looked in my chilton manual and i found the vehicle speed sensor(vss) but it never says where it is located...

On 88+ cars, it's the orange/yellow wire behind the driver's side kick panel on the 6 pin connetor. Eventually, it runs to pin 6 on the EEC.
