I thought my 331 with AFR heads and an X-cam with a full exhaust and intake and s/c with 6 psi would pull down more that 389rwhp and 403rwtq. But i'm still happy with it. Its a safe tune and will give me years of fun! But i heard that i shouldn't expect more than that. I had guess my numbers higher cause of that of other cars but then the guy who tuned mine said that alot of guys BS their dyno numbers. Kinda like my fish is bigger than your fish deal! Now i don't feel bad cause either you or the dyno is lying!

I would certainly expect better from a 331 as a general rule, but you don't list too much about the combination. Some factors I'd be interested in hearing:

- Which AFR heads
- which supercharger
- what rpm did you run to
- what's your compression ratio
- manual or auto tranny?
- which intake?

That'd be a good start.

Thanks,

Chris

I agree on expecting more. I think an average HCI 302 with some boost is a 380 rwhp car. (My friends stock Heads, stock cammed car with a base turbo kit (9 psi though) made similar power and more torque).

I agree, lets here all the details. If your happy thats great, but there might be more on the table there?

The beautiful thing about a turbo is that you don't have any parasitic drag, so, per pound of boost, a turbo will make more peak power.

Just a rough guess, a well built N/A 331 might make about 325 rwhp (maybe more), right? If you do the 'ol boost multiplier guesstimation, you have 6/14.7=.408; 325*1.408=457.6 rwhp.

Of course, that's more of a fantasy number and does not account for volumetric efficiency and parasitic losses, but I'd imagine you'd be making at least 400. But then again, you're not too far from that.

What heads?

What exhaust?

What Intake?

What trans?

Are those uncorrected numbers?

I dont want to bust your balls, but that is pretty low.

My old combo was a 331, untouched victor jr heads, Trick flow stage 3 cam, victor jr intake, carb, bbk shorty heders, 2.5" off road H, mac catback, and a stock t5...

and it made 407 to the wheels.

Now I know the carb will make a bit of a differance BUT, you have boost as well.

IMHO, you should be about 60-70 HP higher...and that is conservative.

How is the tune?

Don't worry about numbers...get it to the track. My Cobra makes 408RWHP now, instead of 414RWHP before and it is way faster.

I ran 12.70's at 114 with 414RWHP and I ran 12.50's at 116 with 399RWHP on that tune one year. Car was more efficient that's why if ran better.

I used the 165cc AFR head. Powerdyne s/c 6 psi. professional products intake. 5200 rpm. electric fan and 2 core rad.
I'm happy cause its a safe tune and really acurate. Unlike most dynos that always seem to be off. Or from guys that post other numbers. The guys that tune these cars that you all drive have higher numbers cause it makes them look good but you more than likely don't have these numbers.

Dude run it at the track dyno numbers mean jack. Mine only made 305rwhp and and 351rwtq but runs 11.85@116 in a 3200lb car with an AOD! Screw dyno numbers I have friends making 490 to the tires and can only run low 12s. Plain and simple: take it to the track then let us know the outcome.

sorry guys that 1/4 track is an hour and a half from here. I won't be able to take it to the 1/8 mile til after the first of the year. But i did put an easy 10+ lenghts on my dads 04' GTO from a 30-100 mph race. This car is sick. Also my mechanic told me that 03' Cobras with exhaust chip and pullie are only putting down 420rwhp on his dyno not 450 like must claim. Mine had more in her but i didn't want to risk it and my mechanic told me that i shouldnt push it and i had great numbers.

Lets see, Powerdyne blower (gag), Pro (?) Products intake, and only 165 AFR heads? I would be a VERY happy camper with those power #'s with those parts.

5200?? DING DING DING There is the reason it didn't make any power. Pull it to 6,000 and see what happens.

Those are decent number from the parts you listed, now if it was a vortech with 185 heads and I don't think you listed the cam?? The intake could definitely be better too, but those are damn good numbers regardless.

Hey guys! Yeah Powerdyne because i got it rebuilt for about $600 and 165cc AFR heads cause i got a heck of deal on them. It was an X-cam from Ford Racing Parts its didn't make much power after 5300 rpms. Shifting at that point is great for this motor. I got the Professional Products intake used and for cheap. I think that it is a great setup to say the least. Yes there was more in her but i would rather the air/fuel to be safe. It isn't worth an extra 20-30 horses for a ticking time bomb.

I'm not shocked that you're only making 390 rwhp with those parts and at relatively low boost. The powerdyne is not the most efficient blower, and I really don't know anything about that intake. The X-cam, though mean sounding, is really a mild n/a cam, and the F-cam is the more commonly accepted cam for boosted motors. A 331 would probably make a bit more power with AFR 185s, but 165s are still a good choice, especially at the rpm you're turning the motor to. With the right cam and intake, you could make those numbers or damned close to them naturally aspirated. Still, I'll bet that it's a fun and torquey engine, and you didn't break the bank putting it together. So, I'd just enjoy it as is, bro. You still aren't going to run into very many cars that can hang. Should be right there with even the new LS3 vettes.

Put a 70mmturbo/novi2000/S-trim on it and see what happens to those numbers. I dont think ive ever seen anyone with more than 500 rwhp from a Powerdine supercharger... i would say that is whats limiting your setup right now.

Also, there are alot of different factors that can affect dyno numbers, Humidity is a HUGE factor, I had my car dynoed one night and it made 360 rwhp with super humid air. Two nights later it was really dry and around 75 degrees and it made 390 rwhp... nothing was changed, and the car definitely didnt pick 30 hp up from nothing.
