Got in my car for work this morning and I started her up and a dink/squeak for a quick second happened as she was cranking from what sounded to be just under my shifter (trans?). I was like hmmmm...tried to think what it would be and then blew it off, put her in reverse and as I was engaging reverse it made the same squeak/dink which made me nervous. The rest of the ride was fine though. I can't wait to see if she is pissy after work as well.

We did get a lot of rain yesterday...idk if that would cause anything. Also my SES light came on 2 days ago...wonder if this has anything to do with it...

Anyone have a similar issue or any idea what this could be? Your knowledge is appreciated. :flag:

It'd be a good idea to get the codes read. Even if the light is off, sometimes it will store a code in memory. If you're positive it's coming from the transmission area, there's 3 things that come to my mind right off the bat. One, the throwout bearing. Second, trans mount crappy, or loose. Third, aftermarket shifter rubbing opening in floor. I've had all 3 come up on different vehicles, so those are my current guesses. Good luck!

Nah, don't bother with all of that. The tube they give you is RTV black sealant, and it wouldn't be the cause of the problem. The only reason for getting those gaskets would be to reduce transmission whine through the shifter handle, and a teensy bit of vibration. The RTV is just there to make sure no trans goo leaks out. Where the shifter could be making noise at, is around the opening in the floorboard. I've seen a few aftermarket shifters with pretty thick bases on them, that , when the engine was gunned, the transmission would wiggle just enough for the base of the shifter to hit the side of the opening in the floorbord, causing a clunk, or metallic rubbing noise.

Another thing I thought, it could possibly be the bendix in your starter going bad, because I just noticed you said it did it while cranking. Has it done it again since you've posted?
