Well I'm finally able to drive her, However now when I starter her a loud grinding noise comes from the starter and fly wheel, just before the engine turns on... the other day the starter broke at the bolts that bolt on to the transimmsion. And today it happened again I had to ask for a push start, not good when you have a gorgeous car and it won't start... If anybody can help please do so....

I have a T-5 and a 5.0 out of a 1989 Mustang, both have being rebuilt... However I don't have a front cover on the transmission. “Could that be my problem... does it act as a shim... please help?

Here’s my ride, that won't crank over

If you are talking about the steel plate between the bellhousing and the block I beleive it acts as a shim and locates the starter side to side as well.

Just my thoughts, maybe someone else knows for sure. :SNSign:

Are you using a stock type starter or an aftermarket one?

Are you sure that the starter is sitting flush on the bellhousing when mounted???

It is conceivable that the spacer acts as a shim. Right now your starter, when it engages, is probably pushing hard against the flywheel. Something is eventually going to give out.
