Starts then shuts off?????

Hello, I need some advice...my 97 v6 starts then shuts off within 5 seconds. Any suggestions? When I try to restart it just turns without firing. After it rests for 5 mins it will start then shut off again within 5 seconds.

Yep, sounds like it's not getting gas. Could also be the fuel pump not putting out enough pressure.

either that or it might be the ignition controller shorting or something. it's simple to change and priced around 100 bucks. the way to test is to but a 5 dollar spark tester and see if it stops sparking before the engine dies. if it doesn't, check that you are getting fuel. Change the fuel filter anyways.
