i want to rebuild my motor next winter and add a supercharger of some kind. are superchargers legal in MA? anything other than stock in MA is basically illegal. i guess if you dont have stock mufflers then you are basically breaking the law.

anyone know?

I would think that if it has a carb number and is smog legal then there shouldnt be a problem. I would never want to be a cop that breaks balls like that. I had one on my ass about my exhaust set-up back when I frst got my car. Took his ass to court and won the case, 2 weeks later he retired, that miserable bastard. Sorry...anyway like I said, if its smog legal and carb number you should be straight. I'm from NY and thats the case here.

Depends on your local enforcement. Technically any mod in IL is illegal. I mean any, does not matter if it is carb approved. My car is blown and about everything else under the sun and it fast passes emissions.

I live in MA, have a blower on my 88 Stang, no problems what so ever. Cops around here only care about noise pollution and speeding...although either of those two things alone applies to almost every mustang. Better keep your license and registration out , throw on the dome light keep your hands on your steering wheel and give him the old- what seems to be the problem officer?- works everytime. Once in a while you run into a cop with gasoline in his blood and he just wants to see what you have under the hood you get off with a verbal/written warning. One thing is for sure- dont get caught without any cats visually underneath the car. If you must hollow them out from the topsides. Good Luck :flag:

As far as the blower... dont worry about it- as long as its a CARB approved designated kit. As soon as you change the pulley it becomes "illegal" in most applications- however- the only way someone could actually tell is when your car does not pass emissions.

Even if the blower doesn't have a carb exemption, you can get an exemption sticker from one that does and slap it on there. I don't know of any sniffer tests that check emissions at WOT.

well SC dont need WOT to produce higher emissions. Emissions tests for our cars (pre-96 RWD) are in the form of dyno tests. This simulates a load which in turn calls for more fuel from the FMU (if equipped) . There is a specified path in which certain speed perameters must be met during the dyno test ( shown in the form of a scrolling line graph). The test simulates driving up a hill which could trigger an emissions failure. As long as you tune your setup right - and dont go overboard..you should be ok.

Oh and it helps if you have a state inspection license--- like me

I live in MA and run no cats. I have been pulled over in my car twice and the cops have never said anything about the exhaust. Lucky I guess...

My response to that is you were lucky- some cops if they dont like the driver (young and/or reckless) will try and bring them down and will look to find any reason to attempt to teach them a lesson. Check the cats/state inspection sticker etc. when all it really does is take mod money away and delays the inevitable! FASTER ET's!
