Im thinking of getting some STEEDA Under Drive Pulleys for my stang.
Anyone know of the gains from these on a 2002 GT (5spd)?
I've heard mixed rumors about them, like "you dont need U/D pulleys on a 99+ stang because their stock pullies are already great" yada yada yada.

Anyway, I'll get them installed professionally but i was also wondering if they produce problems with the electrical power in the car? I've also heard of people losing lighting and dimmed lights and headlights because of the pulleys. Does this happen? Will an upgraded Alternator fix this? Or is it really not a big deal?

Let me know what your exp is with STEEDA U/D Pulleys. :nice:

I noticed a slight improvement w/ the mod. It's easy to do yourself too. Steeda has a great instructions on it..
As for the electrical, I only changed the water pump and crankshaft... Left the alt. on... No problems.

He may have just changed those two because they are easier. The alternator pulley, I hear, is a pain to get off. Plus the rumor is that it is not that much different in size. A good source is to read about the pulleys in the Reviews section (tab at the top of the page). Of the hundreds of others that have asked this question has received responses that they have not had any cooling or electrical issues. The only worry about electrical you may have is if you have a huge stereo system in the car. Other than that don't worry about it. I don't have them on mine, but plan to one of these days. I hear that the difference is similar to that of driving with the a/c on vs. driving with the a/c off.

i tried to install these with my friend and his dad who is a retired machanic and we could not get the crankshaft pully off... what a pain

so i took it to a professional and they did it no problem.

As for the gains i would say the car seems a little weaker in the low rpms, but its so much easier to rev up to the powerband now. Seemed to have lowered the RPMs of freeway driving so thats where the better milage will come from i guess.

ud pulleys are useless on 99+. i had them in my 98 and i felt a difference and the car made good power as it trapped 97mph with just h pipe, timing adjuster, and pulleys.

....but on my 03 i didnt feel anything or gain anything at the track. Luckily i only paid $20 for them.

just some guy said:

Must be model specific then, cuz mine mad a lot of difference in torque and no power loss to the accessories. And I changed all three of mine!

I have em on, 15k miles on em now, no issues. If you have the fan on full it will bog the fan but not the motor if you sit too long under 1k rpm, no big deal since in the summer I dont use A/C
