steering shaft removal

does anyone have a write up on how to remove the steering shaft on a 96 cobra. i have a Haynes manual and they seem to touch on everything but the steering shaft or unless i should look other places than Chapter 10. Do i have to remove the steering gear first?
any help would be appreciated
thanks guys!

there are bolts, with nuts that need to be removed. one is at the connection from shaft to rack. one is up at the firewall. remove both of these with the steering wheel centered. pull and push repetitively toward the rack and the firewall, until its loosened enough to slide off either side. its that simple. it helps to have a friend inside the car when reinstalling. the shaft that runs out of the steering column will try to slide in upon reconnection.

hope this helps, Art:nice:
