STI Brembos on a FOX

Guys, sorry for such a long wait on any updates but it's been very crazy with work and all. Unfortunatly I only have one pic right now of the front while driving but I'll get some more up this weekend of the rears as well.
BTW the cobra brembo kit doesn't hold a candle to these. This thing STOPS on a dime!
We ended up using a 93 cobra master cylinder and a manual proportioning valve.

I want to hear your thoughts....

Thank you Mustang5L5, also I think he meant post #15 but to make it 100% clear:
IT DOES NOT BOLT RIGHT INTO THE SN-95 Spindles. It requires some work that I'm currently holding in the bag.

If fellow stangers are interested I might offer a spindle exchange program. The rears are very very simple as well and these are the specs:

05 Mustang Rotors (12.25" dia. x .75 thk.)
Set of Mitsu-EVO or STI rear Calipers
Set of custom caliper brackets

As far as the wheels, there is no need for a different backspacing or anything like that. I didn't try 17" rims but those should fit as that's what comes with the STI. The rims we used are 18" Cobra Y2K's.

The hoses were rather simple and all in all I think this setup is very easily done on a budget.

I found a couple rough pics of the car that show the rear setup. Does anyone spot anything else unique about the rear setup????:D:shrug:

Keep the comments coming...

-John

I can appreciate the enginuety (sp), but there really isn't a reason to go through the trouble.
When you use 94+ spindles you can use any brakes you want from a car 94-04, which includes aftermarket kits like 5L5 posted above and others.
Or you can even one up them, and get a set of the roush alcon kits that have been circulating at the ridiculously low price under a grand.
Keep an eye out, they come and go on ebay, i was told roush ordered way too many sets.
There is even similar saleen alcon kits available.

To say that the ford racing brembo calipers don't hold a candle to them, that's a pretty bold statement considering both sets are 4 piston calipers from the same company. Certainly not enough to physically feel the difference in the pedal.

Oh, and btw there are cars out there with the gt500 brembo brakes mounted to 94+ spindles. I think there is even a kit now.

I think the Cobra R brembos are the same calipers.

I did check out the 14" GT500 kit. Pretty simple. Just an adapter bracket, slide on the 14" rotor and bolt on the caliper.

One thing i'd be weary about when drilling the spindle is weakening it. There is a lot of brake force generated in hard stopping..more power than any engine could create and some "less expeirenced" modifiers might run the risk of weakening the spindle if they crystalize it while drilling.

But, def more than 1 way to skin a cat. Still interested in the rear setup

Are you guys talking about this gt500 kit? or another one?

05-10 BRAKE UPGRADE KIT, 14" FRONT GT500 STYLE MUSTANG

Ya, putting those parts on 94-04 spindles.
Here's on of the conversion kits: SN95: Shelby GT500 Brake and Wheel Conversion — Vintage Venom - Vintage Mustang Disc Brake Kits

93 titanium, for yourself i'd say this was a worthwhile project, for a business proposal or to make a few bucks, I wouldn't bother.
Lots of people on the internet say they are interested in things, but when it comes time to shell out the cash, most of those people are conveiniantly missing, and the rest just realize they are dreamers.

For me personally it would be very hard for me to swallow putting anything on my car that was meant for a mitsu or subaru. That part will always have the foreign car stigma and i for one don't want to have to answer questions about what brakes i have on my american muscle car with "they are from a mitsubishi lancer".
While the usefulness and quality may be equal to their american counter part, for some people it may just not feel right.

As stated above there are more ways then 1 to skin a cat. on the other hand attached is a link to quite a few different kit's that were mentioned and as many of us know , we can almost find a fox body for that price. To me that is ridiculous change to throw around. Now about "assuming " there was drilling involved sound's quite simple to make our setup work but that was not the ingredient to this recipe. To modify these caliper's to the sn-95 spindle what was involved was some cutting and welding. You are very much correct on crystilizing but we are very serious and have quite a few backrounds in the area of metalergy & metal fabrication which is why we preheat , pwht (post weld heat treat). and also have the capabilities of having an x-ray shot . None the less to each his own, one thing for sure is the difference between the STI calipers and the gt-500 are visible, size, external crossover. To some it doesnt matter, to me i just like to say that we ( me, my father, and brother) have made all this happen ourselves without off the shelf part's and there is yet another to be made like this. REAR CALIPER KITS ARE NOT OFFERED MAYBE WE CAN TRY AND BASH MY SETUP. WHY HAS NOONE YET DESIGNED A MUSTANG REAR TWIN PISTON CALIPER KIT, BESIDES A WILLWOOD RACE KIT ...............................I HAVE..

I appreciate the feedback and will post better pics of the rear setup this weekend.

well that is sort of silly my brother '' 93 titanium '' owns a caddy cts-v with brembos so if i had his mounted , because their off an american muscle car that would be allright??????????
or is this the same train of thought on turbo's , turbo's come from diesel truck's made there way to 4 cyl's , and now anyone who know's a mustangs potential will build a turbo mustang. but we dont relate turbo mustang's with foreign car stigma do we. i sure dont .

2000xp8 thank you and you're correct in many ways about taking this on the road. You are incorrect though about one main thing, weither you get your Brembos from Mitsu, Subi, or Ford Racing- They are all made in Italy!!! Btw look at all the newer sports cars, G8 GXP, Camaro SS, Charger, even the 09 CTS-V they all have Brembos...hmm maybe they want that "foreign car stigma" in a domestic?

My DD is a 2004 CTSV which uses the same exact pads in the front as the STI's brembos.

I don't want to make this a pissing contest but keep the comments coming.

I don't really care what car the caliper comes from...i just want a good deal for it! :)

Besides, the precious 94-04 Cobra caliper...is included in aftermarket brake kits for Civic's and other import cars from Baer.

Honestly, all these OEM Brembo calipers are the same stuff really. Just minor differences here and there but nobody is going to see the caliper on your car and say "OMG!! STI calipers on a Mustang!!"

It is a very intriguing swap. I was going to go with the 2000R fronts, but would def like to see a rear 2-piston setup.

There are pictures posted of the rear , i will get more and try to have a friend shoot em while cruizing so there is a clear shot, for the rear we have made a whole new axle bracket with the main differences in the caliper bolt pattern and the positioning of the caliper to the front side of the rotor , as i have only really cruised a few times last weekend i notice quite a bit of stopping power with the rear also getting reall good squat under applied pressure. overall i am very happy . Any car shows coming up 2000 xp8 i see your from Nj isnt there a show this weekend or am i mistaken?

Not really sure how my "opinion" could be wrong.
Never said anything was any better than anything else, i just said me personally i wouldn't want a part designed for mitsu on my car.
The same way i wouldn't want the brembo's from a cadillac on my car.
Many parts are made by a manufacturer for multiple companies, i personally prefer to have the part truely meant for a ford, it's nothing personal.
