Ok, i got two motors from the junk-yard today, i have the window harness from a 89 "mine is a 85 " and i hooked up the harness and both motors and they don't move, and i still can't get the rear windows to move either, i took a test light to the motors and the front ones get power????

IIRC for the rears, they're the same from 83-93, so those should work.

Window motors are simple. Run fused power and ground to a given motor and see what it does. If it wont work, reverse the wires and see if it works in the opposite direction.

If no go, remove the motor (see all safety precautions and all that) and bench test them. If they work now, Jason's idea about the motor or transmission (gears and races in the motor) being weak or bad is a good one.

Good luck.

i took the two window motors i got out and hooked them up in a differnt mustang and they worked just find, the only thing i can find is that i don't have the passenger side switch and harness "lost them" so maybe that is it, the other thing i found was when i tested the motor for power it got power, but i did not find ground? maybe i have a grond i could not find?

You have to have both switches and complete wiring installed for the window to work.

If you follow the wiring diagram, such as at Autozone.com, you will see that the switches switch both power and ground. In the off postition, neither is connected.

Its done this way because you have to change both the power and ground when changing from up to down.

On two doors, Ford runs power to the drivers window through the pass door switch, I think.

These are very annoying to me to troubleshoot. The easiest way is with the motor out of the door and connected so that you can get a meter on the wires. Sounds like you have a switch problem.

yeah, i'm tring to hunt down a passenger side switch, and i think the problem with my dirvers side is a cut wire, i think i lost my ground some where, i blew the fuse for the windows so i gotta find that and then find the ground, i'll keep you up to date, thanks for the help

ok, whent to the junk yard and got a complete driver side harness and compared the two and find the ground i could not find, it had been cut and tucked, anyway i got the window motors to work, sounded crazy, first time they moved in like 4 years....eek, any way, i've found that it is true the ground is ran through the driver side and the drivers side is a must for everything eles, the passenger side is not, it just controlls the passenger side window and allows it to be hooked up. Now i just need to remove the manual window stuff and install the motors and find a way to make the switches look good, any ideas
