Stock Air Filter Housing...

Ok, when I got my car it has either a BBK or knock off Cold air intake on it... chrome tube with blue connectors...the stock air box was in the trunk...


Since both would pull air from the same place anyway (fender well) I'm planning to use the stock air box when I put the motor back in... but with a K&N filter... I finally got around to checking the box today... I have the rubber hose that goes from the TB to filter housing... it looks like I'm missing one of the 4 latches that hold/lock the top part to the base to get at the filter. Anyone have an extra?? or know where I can buy a new one?
Also on the base, it has an oval opening on the bottom with a foam seal ... I'm thinking there was a something else that went in there the had a round part that when through the fender well? I believe people remove that anyway since that would limit air flow... but the hole on the fender is still round, so I'm thinking I should place the base in the mounting location, trace the inside opening on the fender, and cut it open to that size. What you all think?

Also, I have the Explorer intake I'm putting on, I was planning on getting 70mm Acufab TB and 75mm Pro-M MAF but I measured the intake opening for the TB with my digital calibers this morning and it read 68.xx MM so it's not 70mm so, now should I just buy the 65mm Acufab TB instead of the 70MM????

And for the MAF, on LMR they just list 75mm Pro-M maf's, does it matter if that is much bigger then the TB? Should 70mm be used (not sure if Pro-m even sells a 70mm). I'm thinking it don't matter and 75mm is fine, but wanted to make sure...

I'd stick you your original plan. 75MM MAF and 70mm TB. Clean up the inlet on the explorer a bit to smooth the transition into the intake.

I wouldn't cut the opening on the fender. That opening is plenty large enough to support whatever you do N/A

yeah I wasn't sure, haven't had the trap off the front this year.. forget how the opening looks... I did find this pic on ford parts site - https://www.fordpartscatalog.com/au...5-0l-v8-gas-engine/engine-cat/air-intake-scat

so looks like I don't have the resonator part (#2), which I guess went on the inner fender side... which I don't want anyway right? so the lower box part I have will just mount back to stock location, and I'll get plenty air flow..... So I just need to find a replacement latch for the lid...

So for the intake, your saying to dremel/grind or I guess correct term port that opening? to make it 70mm

You don't need #2. That's the silencer. Just mount the box to the fender and call it a day. LRS will have some of the hardware for it. Also, the airbox doesn't connect to the circle in the fender. That's a remnant from the old pre-1986 carb days where the snorkel went. The EFI air inlet is oval shaped and further forward. It should be obvious. What year car is this you are working on?

As for the intake, don't go too crazy with the dremel. You just need a minor chamfer to blend the transition in. However, befopre you do that, what are you running for a spacer between the Intake and TB? If you aren't running the EGR spacer, you need to install a blank spacer to mount the TB cable linkage.

yeah, I was thinking of the round hole forgot the oval one was there... it's a 1990 GT hatch 5-sp... I was going to get the Acufab TB with the Matching EGR spacer kit.

LRM and other palce only have the 2 rubber mounting/bolt kit (which I bought already, in my pile of parts) to mount the housing to the fender... no latches anywhere... I did find the Dorman Help stuff listed on-line, they have latches, but nothing on there site is coming up for the 90-93 mustang... they have (3) clips models #41101, 41109, & 41112 might have to find in store and match up.. hopefully one of them are correct...

on the fordpartsite I had the link for the whole filter box, it shows it also fit a 92 Lincon Mark vII, so I looked that up on dorman for the latch... they list that... #41109... so that should be the correct one then... hopefully...
