I was looking at installing a stock brake upgrade kit on my car and was wondering
if the kits are worth the time and money.

my rear drums are in need of replacing. my car is only used for street driving and I do not anticipate ever using it for any serious drag racing

Has anyone tried these kits and would you recommend them ?

Are you talking about the Maximum Motorsports stock brake upgrade kit? If so, the braided lines will give you a better pedal feel, and the steel caliper bushings will help keep your pads square under braking.
In my mind, the stock brake setup is fine for street driven cars. I can lock up the brakes at will which in my mind means that the tires are the limiting factor for stopping distance.
At any rate, I have never ever heard from anyone that the stuff that MM sells is junk.
I like my kit. Brakes feel alot more competent.

See http://www.svo73mm.cjb.net/ for the best and cheapest brake upgrades. The site doesn't sell anything but some fittings, but the tech notes are great. It tells you what junkyard or remanufactured parts to use to upgrade your brakes. It has almost everything you could want to know about Mustang brakes on it.

My opinion. Stock fox brakes are dangerous by today's standards. They are too small for a 3400 pound car.

Locking the brakes only means the tires are not grabbing well. Put a decent set of rubber on and attempt a 80MPH panic stop in a fox with stock brakes and you will see them fade to hell near the end. I crapped my pants many times in that exact situation.

If you are just commuting around, more than likely they would be fine, but since it a Mustang and most people like to mess around here and there, you might find yourself in a situation where you need to stop fast.

I upgraded my Fox to SN95 13" brakes and it was the best mod i ever did. It made the car more fun to drive because i could dive into a highway offramp faster and bleed the speed off near the end easily.

Now, would stock brake upgrades help? Sure. But don't expect too much. The front spindle/hub design is prone to building up heat quickly and fading away.

The Maximum Motorsports Brake Upgrade Package was installed on my car last April. I also bought Power Slot Rotors. I noticed a HUGE difference in my braking ablity. It wont be as good as good as a 5 lug brake package, however, it's far better than stock. :nice:
