what sizes of tire are acceptable for use on the stock size rim?

since my stang is a daily driver, ive decided to get some daily driver tires for my 2 old stock rims (which were replaced by 18'' dd bullits). rather than waste the tread on my BFG KDW2s, id rather just get some cheap kinda used tires for my old 17s for driving to school and what not during the week. i can get a pair for about 20 bucks, used from this tire junkyard. there are some 235/40 17 in very good conditon...would this fit? just throw some acceptable sizes at me guys...

235s would look dumb as crap on there! If you can find a Belle Tire nearby, they can get Sumitomos for real cheap. I reccomend getting some 275/40/17s for the 8" stockers for the back, because it will look sweet as hell, they are cheap tires, they last decently long, and aren't TOO bad in the rain.

yea i know theyd look horrible, but just want them as dummy tires ( fun burnouts, and daily commutes). i wouldnt spent more than 20 bucks for this though(saving up for a blower), so im just going to look around this guys junk yard.

hes got some 275/40 17s but they are alot more bald than those ghhhey 235s

Just find some used 245/45/17's. I wanna put on my stockers sometimes to go out & do burn outs, but I hate my skinny ass stock wheels.
