first off, i have 18x9 polished saleens on my car right now with street tires. would it make sense to use my stock wheels, either 16x8 or 7 (not sure) with DR on the back for track use? would i see any gains? they are much lighter, but they arent that wide. would a good pair of tires make up for the width?

Yes, it would be worth it to use stock rims in your case. 18's is a lot of rotational mass to move compared to 16's. M/T makes a great DR tire for track use only.

I have 245/50/16 (stock rims)on mine but I think you may be able to put a 255 on there but I'm not sure stock rime size is 16x7.5 .

They would DEFINITELY help. I run the stock 16X7" "waffle" wheels on my car at the track with 26X10.5X16 ET streets and I have managed a 1.62 60' on them thus far.

Put a 245 or 255 tire on them but nothing bigger. I ran 245-50-16 Nitto DR's for a LONG time on a 16X7 wheel and I had a best 60' of a 1.70 with that combo. You don't want to go any wider than a 245-255 (my nitto 'which tend to run small' 245's buldged on the 16X7 wheel, a 2555 BFG would be much worse).

Most can get 2.2-2.0s 60' times on street tires. With the DRs your planning on now you should be able to run 2.0-1.6s 60'. So they are worth anywhere from 0-.6 sec off the total ET.

If this is a dedicated track tire go with the ET street non radial, if you want to bolt them on and drive to the track get the ET street radial.
