My newly acquired '98 Saleen Cobra has the optional magnesium Speedline wheels. The original tires on it are BFG Comp T/A's in a 245/40-18 size front & rear.

Now for my stoopid question; are the Speedline mags 9" in the front & 10" in the rear or were the 10" rear wheels a separate & distinct option?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Sounds like you have the 8.5" all the way around with the correct front and rear offset. If your car came with the 10" optional rear rims, you would have had the 295/35 tires.......

Bobby is correct.

Just make sure your tire guy is sooo careful when mounting and dismounting.

You can get a 285-35-18 on the rear with no problems as long as you don't go with a really wide running tire like a BFG KD. It will help fill out the rear a little better. You should be running at least a 255-35-18 front tire. That 245 is really narrow. Are you sure the car came with those tires? They must be hard as rocks if they are original.

Thanks for the replies.

From what I know about mid-90's Saleens, they came with a variety of OEM tires such as BFG, Michelin & Pirelli. Considering the low miles on my Cobra, I would have to assume the Comp T/A's are indeed the original tires.

The rear tires do appear awfully narrow compared to others I've seen that probably have the 10" wheel option. Certainly a section width increase in the rear tires is in my future plans whenever the BFG's require replacement.

Say, marcus, where did you get that thumbnail? That car looks awfully familiar... :damnit:

You will be happy with just a wider tire alone. No need to go for a 10 inch rear wheel unless you absoutely have to have it.

I don't remember where that picture came from. I just remember how much I liked the color there since it's the same as mine. Does your car look like that?

That thumbnail actually IS my car, Marcus.

Unfortunately I don't know how much longer it will remain my car since the poltroons @ the CA DMV have refused registering it because it has less than 7500 miles & there is no emissions certification decal under the hood.

As Cartman says; "Democrats piss me off!!!"

Hmm, shouldn't be a problem to get the sticker from Ford, as Saleen doesn't make any major changes to the engine, all the Cobra editions get for performance mods are a K&N air filter and a borla cat-back exhaust, probably the only reason why you don't have the sticker was because of the hood change.

Just like the man said.
Because he has the composite hood.

Compound,

PM me and I'll fix you up.

My 95 S351 came with 8.5 Speedlines all the way around. When I bought the car it had 245'sBFG's on it. I was lucky enough to find a set of chrome Speedlines and put 10's on the rear with 295's. It was a real tight fit and some adjusting of the pipes for them though. But I like the wider look.
