Street Cams

I like to have all the parts ready, before I start a project. There will be more to do before I get to the cam, but I would buy a DEAL, if I found one, before I'm really ready to install.
So with this in mind, I'm soliciting reccommendations, for which cam to be on the look out for. Just cam please, the other parts are what I already have on hand. No, legal, emissions standards to meet.
Engine-92 EFI 5.0 HO, Port matched Exploder Intake, 70mm MAF(eventual up grade here), 65mmTB, 19lb injectors, AFR 165's no smog-street/strip-59cc chambers port-matched-w/1.6 rr's, JBA ceramic mid-length headers, 2 1/2" X-pipe Magnaflow exhaust, 4R70W(Wide ratio Overdrive automatic tranny), 3.25 Trac-loc diff.
The car, 1965 2+2 Shelby clone 2700lb. is used, as a street cruiser, idle-5500rpm, looking for a broad flat torque curve, little lope never hurts, with occasional track runs, would like to see mid 13's & 25mpg highway. Yeah I really think its doable.:rolleyes:

As stated, the engine is a 1992 EFI 5.0 HO, which is a hydraulic roller lifter engine.
With the AFR's CR should be about 9.5
As the stipulated needs are, broad torque, only up to 5500rpm, a Solid lifter cam isnt really approriate.
Possibly my question should be, are there more approriate cams than a Comp XE264HR, for my combination?
Most search results show for the highest HP combos, I'm looking for street best.
 
I know of quite a few very skilled engine builders that won't even touch TFS cams, because of low quality materials and inaccurate machining. Might as well stay with the stock HO cam if you're only gonna rev to 5500. Just about any other cam will make you loose low end power, and only gain power above your peak rpm.
 
Your perfect cam

According to my crystal engine predictor, which never misses a guess, the ideal cam for you would be a hyd roller with 224 degrees intake and 232 exhaust at .050. To build mid range power, and provide a nice lopey idle, it should have a 108 LSA. Intake lift would be 0.556 while the exhaust would be 0.566. It should be installed on a 108 centerline and intake should open at 4 deg BTDC and close at 40 ABDC (measured at .050). The exhaust side should open at 44 deg BBDC and close at 8 deg ATDC (again at .050). Now for the best part. I just happen to have that exact cam, new in the box, never installed, custom made for me by Comp Cams!!:D Only thing I should mention is that it was ground on a reduced base circle for a pre-roller block. It shouldn't have any effect on your build except to require longer than stock pushrods.

Seriously, I'm more seeking information, than a deal right now.

BTW, the 5500rpm isnt an a set ceiling, more like a limit I can live with.
 
Call Cam Research @ 303-762-0022. He has studied air flow in Fords for a long time. has the best Ford tech line and support in the buisness. Tell him what you have and what you want, he will select a cam that is spot on the first time, sell it to you at a greart price and even break it in prior to installation for a price. Break in for a new cam now adays is tricky because there is so little zinc in modern motor oil
 
Use name brand. Just about all the big companies have tech lines you can contact to get their recomendations for your application. They will tell what you need, not try to sell you whats gathering dust on the back room shelf. I use a lot of Competition cams products for years and very happy customer.

It's actually more suited for a 10:1 351 with 185 heads rather than a 9:1 302 with 165s... just thought I'd throw it out there. If you can get access to one of the Desktop Dyno type programs you can play with cam selection yourself.
