Strut Mount

I recently bought a 2.3L that I am using as a daily driver (my F-150 only gets 17 mpg). I have replaced Macpherson type struts before, but never the kind where the coil spring is not around the strut. I plan on reusing the dust shield and upper strut mount. Can anyone tell me the best way to remove the nut numbered N800260 in the pic below. I know the obvious way is to hit it with an air compressor, unfortunately I do not own one. I thought about putting the strut rod in a vise to remove it. Any ideas from people who have done this without an air compressor are much appreciated.

or an electric pneumatic impact gun. most max out at 115 foot/lbs torque should more then do it

i changed my front end struts without any speccial tools.

grabbed a half inch drive and breaker bar and just did it. gotta put your back into it, its not that hard

Use a big screwdriver to hold the slot at the top and grab a wrench. I usually spray it down with WD40 first if its a little corroded. Its a little hard at first but should break loose

I tried a big screwdriver in the slot with a wrench after spraying it with WD40 and it wouldn't budge. I guess I will keep trying until it breaks loose. Thanks for the replys.

Top of threaded rod chipping off

A buddy of mine helped me by holding a big screwdriver in the slot while I tried to loosen the nut after spraying a bunch of WD40 on it. All that happened was that the threaded rod started to chip off. That nut is really on there. I was wondering what you guys thought about me using a nut splitter, see pic below?
