Stupid deer!!

I hate deer. I nearly nailed the crap outta one on the way home today. I was going around a sharp corner at about 60, glanced up at my temp gauge, looked back, and a deer was on the right side of the road. I cut over to the left as far as I could, and hit the brakes. Then he runs across to the left side of the road (where I'm barreling down on him) and I swerve back to the right. I seriously miss the deer by only inches. I about shyte myself. I woulda been pissed if I had hit a deer just before putting up the stang for the winter. Nearly 2 years without incident and then that? That woulda sucked.

my friend nailed a deer with his VW this winter, broke his headlight and dented his hood.

I just got back from some training in SC. There are dead deer (one's that got hit) on the road all the way up I-77 like every mile or so. They're EVERYWHERE!!! I'm glad it's not like that here. When I get to go hunting ..... I like to have a little bit of a challenge, lol.

Where we live, the deer are so tame, I can stand out in my backyard and shoot about 5 at any given time. They just walk around our pastures all times of the day, even when I drive down our road in the stang, they just stare at me and watch me pass.

The title had me kinda worried there. Though you actually hit it. I have to take insurance off the car when I store it. All but comprehensive, cause I am so tempted to take her out on a nice fall or winter day. There are just so many deer up here looking for food at those times, I could just see it now.

Glad to see you made a clean gettaway. Both your pants and the car.

When I was growing up (Alaska) a moose jumped over the front of the truck (it was about 50-100' ahead of us when it started, but ended up with its back legs pretty close to the windshield). Not much you can do to stop on an icy road.

To add to Shane's funny observation, I found that if you are holding your breath, it creates a vacuum which keeps your shorts clean.

Yea I hear you on the insurance. I already only have liability, so if I had hit the deer, I would have been paying for it out of pocket. lol at the pants joke.

Wait........ what? A moose jumped from 50' away and cleared your truck? Musta missed something. I know those beasts can be real dangerous as they're too tall for your headlights to hit their eyes, making them hard to see. I didn't know they could jump though. LMAO at the hold your breath thing. Come to think of it, I think I was holding my breath, no doubt the only reason I didn't have to take a shower when I got home, lol.

lol, yea we have deer here. The deer out in west texas can be quite big. The ones where I live are small though. I shot one last november that was corn fed and large for our area at 150lbs. Oh yea, we have plenty of scorpions too. Scorpions, rattlesnakes, coyotes, mountain lions (at least one on the ranch behind us), foxes, and all kinds of other critters.

Try a good ol' Canadian Moose oh highway 17 in northern ontario...a few years ago, on that highway I was passed by a lady in a ford escort who looked like she was in a major hurry. About 8 minutes down the road, i drove over some moose guts, then looked down to see her car/what was left of her car-in the ditch

Whole car torn to peices, not much recognizable about it...the moose was about 15 feet back from the car, also dead, but not nearly as beat up as the escort...

Thank god i wasn't speeding that morning...and that happens at least once a day there

Poor lady, who knows why she was even speeding? Could have been rushing to the hospital because her husband had a heart attack. Not likely, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Chris, MPH to Feet/second conversion sheds some light. 30 mph is ~ 45 f/s. The moose was at a full sprint and did not take long to cross the right lane. It seemed longer since it was in sloooooooooooooooow-moooooo.

I'm so used to thinking yards, I didn't even actually think about how short of a distance 50 feet really is, especially in a vehicle. Nice little math refresher JT, thanks! lol.

I hear you on the slow motion part too. When I fell and broke my shoulder skateboarding a few years back (crashed hard on a wet halfpipe), I also hit my head and gave myself a concussion. Everything was happening fast, but you know how they say you see your life flash before your eyes? It's true, I can actually remember taking a couple breaths as I was going down. You know what they say about seeing the light at the end of the tunnel? That's true too. I asked my brother a few weeks later if the paramedics were shining a light in my eyes in the ambulance (checking my pupils), he said no, they did it at the accident scene. I KNOW I saw a light during the ambulance ride, lol.

Yeah, by the time i got there, there was another car stopped and he'd called the ambulance, we tried to give her first aid but she was killed on impact

I knew there was a reason I never skateboarded. Plus now that I have seen some of those shows where some guy goes off a 20' high jump and lands on his boys, um NO way!

Seriously, I am glad to see that you came away (from the sound of it, and for the most-part - I know you still have aches and pains) unscathed.
