It's a really dumb question but this shows you how mechanically challenged I am :D

I know where some of it goes and I figure it'll be pretty obvious where everything else goes when we take the stock ones off but I figured I'd ask and be safe. It may be helpful for other people too.

I already know the alphabet...but what do all of these little pieces parts have to do with anything. MAKE YOURSELF CLEAR MAN...:D Are you wanting to know how to reassemble?

:bang: Yeah, pretty much confused why there are so many parts and I don't know where 2/3 of them go. :rlaugh:

I know where everything goes.. it's been only 2 weeks since I did my shocks/struts by myself :D

If you have any q's just shoot.. I'm here for ya mate :)
 I assume it'll be pretty obvious where all the parts go once I take the stock shock/struts off?

yea dude.. So those parts were not yours? I thought you did all those...

Like I said, if you forgot which part go where and how they fit.. just post. I'll answer the best I could if I'm here :)

PS. You're not installing them today? and take lots of pics if ya can :)

 Installing tomorrow afternoon. I know where a few parts go from doing a spring install on my roomate's Stang so I figured it'd be pretty obvious when I took the stockers out.

I'll try to get my little cousin to come over and take pics while my neighbor and I do the install. :)

Ok, we did 1 rear spring and a shock just now.. My friend's gf came over and it got dark so we decided to finish it up in the morning. BUT, when we put the new shock on, we had no idea where these 2 parts go.

The stock one did -not- have these 2 parts and I'm prett confused where they go. The new shock went in fine but hasn't been driven yet since we only had time to do 1 side.

The silver metal piece acts as a washer between your rubber bushing and the nut you screw in at the top of your wheel well where you secure it to the chassis. (Shock end "S" on your above picture). so the upper attachment goes like this

TOP

Nut (Q)
Metal Plate (M)
Rubber Bushing (N)
Chassis
Rubber Bushing (S)
Metal Plate (depending on shock) (S)
Shock (S)
Shock (R)
connected to Lower Control Arm (by O & P)

BOTTOM

The stock one was like this:
P and Q connect to the axle/LCA and the bottom of the shock (S). O is connects to top of the shock (S), inside the trunk.

This is how it's connected stock. And this is how I have it connected to my car right now... I don't see how the washer or the other rubber bushing can go -anywhere- as the threaded part of the shock isn't long enough for anything else to go between it and the top part, O.

bump...

Looks to me like they were meant as replacements for the two stock bits that look identical. I bet you did it right

Bump. Good thread. Please post as many pics as you can JonJon, and I'd really appreciate any kind of write up. My install (shocks/struts/springs/CCs) is coming up in the next week or two, and I'll do the same thing.

Anyone else got advise?

Ok, well the shocks are both in fine, they went in exactly as the stock ones did. Except with those 2 left over parts.

The strut however, is a whole other issue.
Do you need the plastic cover that is on the stock strut? the dust cover I guess? I have no idea how we'd get it off, it won't budge.

Stuck on the stock strut? Bump

Off topic: You using a spring compressor or just doing it with jacks?

We'll try again later tonite to get the dust cover off. The biggest problem I think is this:
Nut right side up
nut01.jpg

nut02.jpg

Nut upside down
nut03.jpg

nut04.jpg

The nuts won't go below there. If I flip the nut upside down, it goes even less. It looks like both nuts that were sent don't thread properly. ???? We tried with a screw driver bit and ratchet with wrench but we weren't able to get it to go any lower...

What should we do??

Excellent thread JonJon - I've got the parts to do this as well, jsut need a day to do it - maybe this weekend.

As for the nut - I'd go to Lowe's or Home Depot and take the nut and strut (is that what the threaded thing is?) and go find a nut that matches the threads but is the same width and height of the other nut.
