Stupid questions, BUT? Hissin, Grady, or Killer maybe you can help?

Can anyone explain to me how the IAC vavle on the newer SOHC and DOHC motors work. Now before you think I am a complete idiot, I understand the way they work on our cars, as they let a determined amount of air pass around the TB blade. Where I am confused is on the newer motors the IAC is mounted to the plenum (which is past the TB blade). With that being said, I don't understand where the air to be bled into the intake is coming from. Am I way off base?

Next question is can I make one of the newer style TBs (03-04 cobra or other oval TBs) work on my car? I know it won't bolt up, but if I fab a new TB mounting flange to the intake, can I make the electronics and TB cable work on my car? Am I wrong in thinking that if the TPS on these newer TB are a 5v range, then the computer should be able to read correctly once it is wired correctly?

I know this is 5.0 section, but you guys know me here, which is not the case in the newer sections of this site, so I figured you guys would help me out.

As usual I am up to something custom that I won't disclose of right now until I can figure out how this stuff works for my application. If I decide that I can make this newer stuff work I will let you in on what I might be doing this winter to the car.

I know for a fact that the tps is 0-5v..

Looking at a picture of an 03 Cobra plenum, it seems there's a port to the IAC and a hole in the TB to this port. Check pic #3 in this link.. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2006/10/BlowerPorting/index.php

The 03-04 TPS is a 3 wire 0-5v range just like the 94-95 IIRC. Getting the TPS and cable to work shouldn't be a problem but I think to mount the TB itself you'd have to make some kind of flange/plenum like the 03 Cobra has with the port to allow for the IAC.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the 4.6 ISC have a hose connection that runs to the air intake tubing to draw its air from. I was trying to find a pic but couldn't find any.

I know on the 2v gt engines the ISC is located on the upper plenum and the isc has a rubber hose that runs into the air intake just down stream of the maf.

Rich - LOL, I am getting the urge to call it year. I am getting the itch to tear the car apart for winter again. So if I know this stuff before winter, I can have the plan underway already.

it does (atleast on the 2V) and theres a little black box inline that filters the air going to the IAC

i just got a CEL on my 02 for bad IAC and need to replace it. noticed it acting up a bit ~2weeks ago and it finally got the CEL lastnight

As you know I pretty much think that my car is done for the year. I have come up with a few more ideas to add to the list that we already spoke about. So at this point Im ready to call it a year and start on getting things done.

I know I am jumping in on this late but my '02 2V has a quarter sized nipple on the front of the IAC that routes to a little plastic box that I can only assume is a filter of some sort and then 90 degree turn into the air intake tube (where it's getting the air from). It's obviously between the TB and the MAF where the hose hooks on.

Thanks! In my further reasearch, I think that I have fully figured out the IAC thing.

Next this again is, can I make the newer TB work with the 95 mustang electronics? I will custom fab a new mounting flange, so I am more concerned with making the cable and eletronics work.

Well I haven't seen any TPS on any car that didn't go off a 0-5V range. Both the 94-95 and 03-04 are 0-5V 3 wire TPS; 1 wire is signal, 1 ground, 1 reference. A quick look at a wiring schematic of both cars and/or some use of a DMM will make it easy to figure out how to wire up correctly. Hopefully that helps a little.

VREF on all Fords is 5 volts.
