subframe connector install price

hey guys, sorry but i got to vent a little bit. i tried calling around to have my MM subframe connectors welded in for me. and 5 out of the 6 muffler shops i called said they would touch it because its a structural weld. so i tried that last place in the phone book and the guy said sure bring it over and we will throw it on the rack and take a look. so i did this morning and he quoted me 8hrs for the install and 500 dollars plus supplies. needless to say i laughed in his face. that is like way high of a price right? where do u guys get your frames welded at? would using jack stands be ok if i did it on my own? i do know how to weld, of course its only a mig welder. any thoughts?

I had the exact same results as you, except the performance shop I found in my area "only" wanted $300 or $400 "depending on the amount of labor..." Needless to say, they are still sitting down in my basement bedroom. I should have just bought bolt on ones, as they would be better than nothing.

yeah thats just a crazy price for all the more welding there is. i could do it myself, i just thought a lift would be easier. id like to know where these guys get it done for 100 dollars or less.

idk about those bolt on ones. a guy in my town has them on his trans am, and when he gets on the gas you can hear them rattle and clunk. the bolts keep coming loose.

guess the search continues for us. lol

I got mine done for $90 for an hour at a local muffler shop, but he did say he should have charged me for an extra hour...make sure they use a proper lift when welding your subs!

It depends on how the shop installs them. Anyone can just weld them right up and get you out the door in an hour, but the places that are charging $300-$500 grind the surfaces down to get a better weld and then paint everything after all of the welding is done for rust protection. Is all of that necessary, I don't know. But if they are doing all of that, I could see it being a 3-4 hour job. I paid about $300 and they did all of the above mentioned work in a little over 3 hours (they might have installed rack bushing too, I can't remember).

I paid just under $100 for my subs to be installed and they look nearly new after 7 years. No rust at all.

I found a couple shops that do a lot of work on stangs and their prices were reasonable. Most non-mustang shops and/or regular shops charge crazy money for just about anything.

Are you talking about the standard or full length subframes? I got my MM standard ones installed for $50. Took the guy all of about 20 minutes. If you're going w/ the full length ones, I would expect to spend a hundred or two just because of the parts/labor involved.

I welded mine on in about 3 hours total from putting it on the jackstands to taking down, including leveling the car...

the welds are not pretty but 8 months later the SFCs are still on the car...

Buy a $350 welder and do it yourself....

i already have a mig welder. and i know that i can weld them in. i just thought it would be easier to let someone with a lift do it. but for 500 bucks, screw that. ill do it myself.

94-302-vert: what all did u level? just the car from front to back? or did u do diagonally front to back?

I leveld the car side to side... In the front I put the jackstands on the ends of the frame rails so that the weight of the motor would flex the car back to shape (Vert)... Then I just treated it as a series of tack welds... I am not a welder...

Mine were $4xx for Full lengths done right at Steeda..including the subframes....took about 3 hours..they did the job right!

There are a couple local shops here that make their own full length SFCs. All said and done they run for about $150 installed. That INCLUDES the subframes themselves.

weird.. local well-know hot rod shop that's done this plenty of times (great work, i hear, from everyone i've asked that have had work done there) quoted me $50. says they usually make their own, so he didn't know what to charge, heh.

yea the price that garage quoted me for the 500 dollar install didnt include the subframes. i already bought the subframes. im going to keep checking around and see, but most likely i will do it myself

Is there any way to straighten out dented up subframes? Mine have years of abuse from jackstands, and I think that may be why Im being quoted so high. My MM SFCs dont mate up flush to them...
