I got the subframes installed and the car feels very solid especially arounds turns and over bumps. Feels more solid like (dare I say) my dad's vette.

How come Ford does not make the Mustang a uni-body?
Is the 05 Stang a uni-body?
A full frame makes sense to me.

Where did you have yours put in? I was thinking of just going to a local muffler shop but didn't know if they would do a decent job or if thats what most people use?

the mustang is a unit body, it's like that because it's cheaper, weighs less, and it's cheaper :D

I'm also curious where to get subframes installed, I'm not trusting my baby with a muffler shop welding on her :(

I had mine welded in by a local muffler shop. They told me they get requests for this all the time from Mustangers. Just find a muffler shop that's been doing it and you'll be fine. It took about an hour to install. They had to remove the stock subframes (I have a vert) which were bolted on.

When I got mine, I had them done at an alignment shop.

Any shop that can weld is fine, as long as they either

1. use a four post drive-on lift

2. do it from a pit under the car.

you want the car to be sitting flat on the wheels when they are installed or else your car may have a bow in the chassis when you put it on the ground. :notnice: Although I do know shops that can install them on the standard suspension lift if they put the arms in the right place.

I actually noticed more of an improvement during acceleration and braking on the '96 when they were done. Not nearly as much nose-over on braking, and not as much ass-dragging on acceleration.

The 'vert made a huge difference all the way around, since the fox verts were notoriously under-stiffened. :nonono:

Did they improve your traction any? I am about to get some custom full-length subframes with seat supports welded on, but my tires are bald, so I was wondering if they would help with my traction. After the subframes it will probably be some new tires!

yeah, they helped a good bit...I noticed I can control the wheelspin more than I could before by feathering the throttle :nice:

the mustang has been a uni-body since the first model, the 2005's are using the new thunderbird (they extended it) chassis.

how much for the install?

The hourly rate here for a welder is $75. That's what the muffler shop charged me, but everything seems to be higher here in California. It may be lower where you live. Just call a couple of places and you'll get a good idea of costs and you can ask if they've done 'em before too. It's really a straight forward install. If I had welding skills and tools, I would have done it myself but I decided to have a pro do it.

flipnsac,

where did you have yours done????

when I had my 00 gt I had my subs installed at a muffler shop, one of the best mods you can do next to gears. that and a strut tower brace, got rid of all those anoying squeeks a mustang has to.

Along with subs it is a great mod to also add a shock tower brace. With both of these, you will be surprised how much better the car will feel. This is even more true with a 'vert.

Most people find these to be more of a pain than providing any value......you have to remove them to work on your engine at all....and they don't help all that much...

I say it's mostly cosmetic with a side effect of helping handling slightly....
