sounds like you have the idle mixture too lean. also where is your timing set?

i set the timming about a month ago. i dont remember what it was at, and i havnt changed it at all. i dont have a timming light. i have a flex fan and last night i put an electric fan as a pusher which gets alot more air going through the radiator. but she still gets warm

The Edelbrock owners manual says go leaner by turning clockwise, and richer by going counter clockwise.

Check out
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/index.html
On the left side- click on carburetors, then look under (EPS) owners manuals.
There a section for idle mixture.

Unless it's only overheating at idle, I doubt it's the idle mixture circuit. Did you retard the timing when you set it?

its only overheating at idle. if i put her in neutral and rev the engine to about 2500 and keep it there, the temp drops about to normal

How hot does it get?

I am in Phoenix as well. I have to mess around with my cooling system.

Last night was the only time my ride didn't go over 200 degrees, but only because it was cool after the rain.

I don't drive my car in the heat of the day at all.

220 was the highest. when i saw it i did the rev in neutral thing and it brought it down rapidly.
i just adjusted the carb like it says to on edelbrocks site, and i still have the same prob.

I think I am having the same problem. I had it in the shop for a while and when I took it home I noticed it was overheating when I was just idling. I have since done just about everything to try and fix it new aluminum radiator, new water pump, new 6 blade fan, shroud. I have not done the timing but I do own a light. I have also messed with some carb stuff and do not really know much about it. I'll make a new thread on the radiator install.
Do not mean to hijack either.

Usually a squealing bearing and/or, of course, leaks.

If it ran ok before you tried to adjust the carb.
Then ran hot after you changed the air/fuel mixture, I would say you adjusted it too lean.
(most perf. cars will run a little rough when cold)

When adjusting air/fuel mixture , the car should be at normal operating temp.
Get it hot, then adjust by ear until the highest rpm is achieved then re-adjust main idle if needed.
or
Get it hot, and adjust until the you get the highest vacuum reading .

If you have to change the timing, do that first then the carb.
Timing first
then Carb.
(I know nothing about edelbrock carbs., but same general rules should apply as Holley?)
