Suggestion on Combo

Ask Grn92lx...he has a street car that runs almost that. Depends on which compression calculator he uses. Cars tend to run a bit hotter with more compression and starts can be a bit slower. Trade it for more power.

why do you two always get into it with "bigger" parts?

5spd.... you over paid on those heads. With a valve spring upgrade, im gonna have a TOTAL of $1050 into MY heads... brand new. and they flow MUCH better. streetable... everyone has their own definition of it. Mine has all accessories, upgraded brakes and will do 115 with a good diff setup and good tires. but my problem is that i am afraid to push the car too hard.

Nate, all said and done with both cars set up 100%and driven properly your car should be faster than mine. You know what you need and I know what I need. Money is the problem. Hopefully I can hit or exceed my mph goal with my planned changes. I'm close but still need work.

115mph should be the goal of a car with a stock shortblock or a 306.

120mph should be the goal for anyone with a stroker.
Literally i know a dozen guys that have went 114mph+ with stock shortblocks NA.
Even a guy with a retarded E and a set of cleaned up gt40x's that went 116mph.

Yep, thats correct. I have a goal set for my car, now I need to fix the stuff that it needs so I can hit my goal. 115 is pathetic for my combo if it was 100%, but luckily for me, its not. I gotta swap my head gaskets when i get a chance since they seem to be seeping oil and I think coolant too. Been like this for a while, I just been lazy to change it even though we've had a mild winter so far. All things considered, 115 is decent but far from what the combo has in it.

That gt40x car you speak of is that guy 5.0Roy from corral, right? I've seen that car first hand at the track and for those parts it ran hard!

Yup, that's leroy, all his stuff runs hard, and he can drive. He goes to the track more times in one week than most guys have been there ever.
He's a bit tough on transmissions, but i guess that's the cost of playing.
He's also one of BD's test dummies.

Nate, i can understand that.
I have a bit of an advantage being friends with someone with so much experience, takes all the guesswork, or trial and error out of the equation. Sometimes when i speak i forget and take that for granted.

Nate - Those heads didn't cost "to much". That is what I wanted to pay and I got what I payed for. Tell Ed I paid to much 1285 for the bare heads. $150 for the spring upgrade. $30 for the studs. $30 for the viton seal upgrade.

Afr's cost what they cost, i wouldn't pay that much for them, but then again they aren't what i wanted so...

People pay more or less for things sometimes out of desire, more than necesity, i don't see a problem with that.

I think ur combo u describe up top will work just fine, NA. Get the RPM ll port matched. There r 306's with AFR 185's and ur combo putting down 350/350 @ the RW, NA so the TW 185's r not too big, IMO.

my combo is pretty similar to what you had originally planned, even down to the xe274. i really dont know what kind of power im making, or what kind of et and mph i would put up at the track (anybody can chime in if you have an estimate). hopefully making 400+ at the crank after tune.

Are you sure it's 625 rwhp?

That's roughly 150-175rwhp past the normal splitting point.
Most guys only make it a few weeks at 500+, depending on how much and how hard they drive the car.

I wasn't bashing the stock block at all. He asked for suguestions on his combo and I offered mine up. It's just an opinion from the internet.... If I was bashing the stock block, I would have done one of those "I want 500RWHP on a stock block threads."

Now, I'm interested to see how this combo works on the street (driveability / torque)

well i was talking to 86 cobra on the corral and he said that it was a great car, hit its peak and so on all below 6000rpm, but would be more of a weekend warrior car. It could be a daily driver, but you would have to deal with a rough idle and bucking below 2000rpm, and it was noisey. Sounds exactly what i was looking for.

The bucking down low can become a serious PITA on the street. I should know, my car doesn't make any power down below 2000 rpm.
