Suggestions on my 06 GT please...

Hey everyone,

I just bought a 2006 GT 5SPD and i was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on what i should do it first. I plan to replace the exhaust (should i go CAT back or EX back? and what brand and pipe do you suggest?), would like a CAI and a programmer and maybe headers next but my specialty is fixing PCs so i am quite green to what my Stang needs to breathe better and deliver more power until i can afford a SC. Thank you very much for any suggestions you can give, i greatly appeciate it.

I'm in the same boat. I will probably do my exhaust first (axle back either Corsa or MAC's) and then CAI (either steeda or C&L).

looks like we are all in the same boat...just got my 06 a couple of weeks ago. I am going with the CAI and tuner...probably get it in another week. Everything I have read on here points to a CAI and tune as the best bang for the buck....then its lower springs as I hate the gap in the wheel well even with 18" rims. I am going with the JLT CAI as I just reread the MMFF CAI shoot out and it posted the best numbers and I like the idea of it coming in the same color as my car. Just my 2 cents.

I think I am gonna go w/ the:
JLT Series II Cold Air Intake kit with NEW SCT X-calibrator 2 package deal.

I was just wondering about fordracings intake,tune and exhaust pkg.
I'm sure it's not as aggresive but it keeps the warranty intact.

where did you see that the warranty in intact? MOST dealers will tell you that FRPP parts are treated the same as any other aftermarket parts. there is no special treatment with FRPP parts. SOME dealers will warranty them if you buy it from them and have them install the parts as well.

When I took delivery I mentioned it.
The service manager says they will honor it.
I mentioned I would do the install and He said that it wouldn't be a problem.
It could be him just blowing smoke though.

Thanks for the response, i was thinking about using Ford Racing parts and having them dealer installed and then i will have no warranty issues. The only thing is FRP does not offer the variety of stuff other aftermarket companies do. i was thinking of using the M-5230-5GT pipes from FRP which are supposedly made for FRP by Borla and they are Axle back. i also want to use their M-9603-GT05 Col a Air Kit. I also plan to install their M-2005-FR3 handling pack as well. Then later add the SC and that should be enough to make it fun.

I called the Ford Dealer and they stated the only add-ons i could do without voiding the warranty were FRPP parts. Although now i think it best to contact FRPP directly to verify this if you have been given different information. If it voids the warranty i might as well use what works best instad of what has Ford's name on it. Thanks a lot!

I just got off the phone with FRPP and you are correct Bigcat (thanks) that any aftermarket part will void the warranty regardless of who makes it. The only upside is they (FRPP) stated in order for a given aspect of the warranty to be voided they (Ford) have to prove that the failure is due to the aftermarket part. You guys probably already knew that but that appears to be the policy. Long story shot though one miht as well install what is the best and acquired at the best price as opposed to buying something from FRPP because there does not appear to be any warranty benefit in doing so. Thanks again!

Hey guys,
I'm not in this forum much as I don't have a new Stang, still driving my old 5.0, but I have a friend with an '06 (auto) that is getting the itch to mod. He is a former 5.0 guy as well, but he kept his pretty much stock. He's now asking my advice as to what basic mods he should start with. He does not want to void any warranty or spends thousands. Just off the top of my head, I am thinking exhaust and gears. He has mentioned a cold air kit and a tuner, but doesn't know whose to go with. Chassis stiffening shouldn't be immediately necessary as his '06 is a hardtop. Will you give me some insight and suggestions on which mods/which brands are proven on the new generation Stang? Thanks.

I'm glad you made that call.
After bigcat mentioned that I called the dealership and spoke to the service manager and he wasn't so sure all of a sudden. He was like are you buying through us and are we going to install it?

Oh well i would rather have the JLT anyways.

its always a plus to keep everyone informed. glad the information helped you out.

SUPAFLY-gears MIGHT void your rear end warranty. if you have something go wrong in the rear, they might blame it on the new gears. if a dealer installs the gears, you will have a better chance of that not happening, but again, not guaranteed. many dealers will warranty parts that are purchased through them and installed by them. its best to check with your local dealer for specific answers. the gears will help the seat-of-the-pants greatly. new mufflers (for the most part) are only for sound (some claim big gains, most dont produce much). a tuner can cause problems, because if you have an egine problem, they can blame it on the tune.

BOTTOM LINE: if you are worried about warranty, dont mod your car until after the warranty period. if you want to gamble, go ahead. chances are that nothing will go wrong, but do you have the money to cover the repair if warranty does not honor the repair????

Check out the JTI and Xcal2 package on part shopper :SNSign: {this is a link} (great price/product). As far as axle backs go, it's all in your taste, loud the SPL Loud mouth is king, sound I have to lean toward the flow master delta series! but that is just my two cents.

Install the CAI package and pipes at the same time. That's what I did. I got much better sound and performance at the same time. I had a grin ear to ear the entire day.

I've had good experience with a CAI and a tune from an SCT X-calibrator 2. I've been running it now for several months. Works great, no down side I can see yet. My dealer knows about it and has in fact fixed a warranty item (leaking brake fluid reservoir cap). I haven't heard any talk from him about voiding anything.

My opinion is that most of the CAI's will do a good job. I don't think any of them is very much better than the others. The tuners, Predator and SCT, both seem to have their supporters. But, you do need to have the tune installed by somebody who knows the new Mustangs. Check the archives, there are a bunch of good folks. These mods will make a world of difference in your car. They did with mine.
