Sumitomo HTR Z

Anybody running these tires? I'm thinking about buying a set of 4 to replace the stockers or just getting 2 Sumitomo's and some Yokohama AVS ES100's for the rear.

Anyone have any ocmments on either of these tires?

I had bad experiences with Sumitomo tires. Are you sure you want that brand?

they wear down the road. they will last for a long time, but performance sucks. if its just a street tire and nothing else, you can get away with them. just be careful and dont try any stunts, especially in the rain. if you go to the track at all, I wouldnt recommend them.

NOTE: my sumi's are the HTR+'s, the Z's may be better. I dont know.

I have a set of Sumitomo HTRZ 275-40-17, 315-35-17 mounted on 17x9, 17x10.5 Black '03 Cobra Rims.... Waiting for the snow to disapear forever before I put them on. Once I do, I will let you know how I like them.

i had a set of 315's & at first they did fairly well (this was with 280rwhp). then they started to get a lil wear & they were aweful, & when i put the blower on the car i would have hooked better on ice

Wow, sounds like these tires aren't for me...

How about Hancook VENTUS HR II H405 or FALKEN ZIEX ZE-512 (again, I would be buying 4 to go on stock wheels)

im going to buck the trend and say that, owning two models of Sumitomo tires, i love both of them, had the HTR+ on my 03 Civic Si, and it stuck like glue. when i got the stang i put Sumitomo's HTR Z model on in 245/45-17 and 315/35-17. theyre great. i ran my 2 second 60ft time on those and they never broke lose. i dunno, for $110 i think they are an excellent tire. i dont think i wont pay $300+ for the goodyears. i mean they cant be that much better.... personally, judging by the other models you listed, youre not looking for a racing tire anyway, so i think for the price you cant beat them and you will be more than satisfied with them.

I have also had two sets of Sumitomo's, on my 96' GT and on my current 2002 GT. They have never given me a problem, and for the price you cant beat them. If your just looking for a normal tire, and not some track tire as VividDreams said, then these will be fine. I use them for daily driving as well as spirited driving on occassion and dont have any complaints.

My Sumitomos that i had mounted yesterday (now my second set, had them on my old '99 GT) are doing great. The Kumhos they replaced spun completely through first and into second. These arent broken in yet and hook very well just like they did on the old GT. To those who say these aren't good tires for the track, Jackie Chan cut 1.9 60' with them more than a few times

I have the Falken Ziex ZE's. For cheapies they kinda hook good. I have 275/40's on stock bullitts. They are nice in the rain (no snow driving yet). Been driving on mine for better part of 12k miles and have half tread left. But I do burn them occasionally and lots of interstate driving. Not really trying to praise them but hell...for the money. I had a tire shop here mount and balance 235/45's on the front and 275/40's on the back for $500!

I also run the sumitomos, and on the street, they are fine. To be honest, if you are constantly exceeding the grip levels of them on the street, you need to join the SCCA and get to a track. In normal "spirited" street driving they hold up fine, and wear decently. In addition, despite lower handling limits than something 3x the price, they are fairly predictable on public roads. Wet traction is nothing to write home about, but when its wet why would you want to push it anyways? Obviously they aren't gonna grip like a set of Nitto NT-1s, but they are priced accordingly. I'll buy another set when mine wear out - when I want to drive crazy fast I take the shifter kart out

You might want to check the made in tags of your clothes, shoes, computer, electonics, etc.

But seriously, the sumitomo HTR Z are extremely cheap for a reason. They did have great tread wear, mine where great in the rain, and hooked so-so.

They did have issues with noise and keeping balance. They are worth the $$ they cost but of course the other tires are better.

Believe me I do...Can't really get around some things but there are tires still made in the good ol' US of A

I haven't had much luck with street tires at the track. With the Essensas I have now were new I could hook pretty good but now they have over 10K miles they hook like I'm on ice. The Pirelli's I had were pretty old for my runs and I could do OK with those. Of course I'm dealing with about 50-60 more HP now than before so that could be part of it.

Now for a good running, cheap tire look at the Essensas i mentioned above. Like I said I have over 10K on them and they still look new. Good wet traction and a quiet, smooth ride. Not sure what other sizes you can find though since I only went with the stock size.

I have a set of HTRZ II's on the back of my Stang and I won't be buying them again. After going to the track 3 or 4 times the tires hardened up real bad and now it's like driving in the rain even when it's dry.

If you never plan on going to the track they'll be fine. But if you do a few burnouts they'll harden up and completely suck everyday.

I have the same tires and with my power level they do not hook at all, I plan on going back to my bfg dr's.

Going off topic, but I was cleaning the garage yesterday, putting away some of the tools I got for christmas. I got a set of small pliers from Craftsman. Well those bastards where made in China. I was kinda suprised, although I shouldnt have been. I thought all craftsman was USA made.
