Well, I just got some flowmaster super 40s welded up today.

When my muffler guy finished welding, he gave me the keys to let me be the one to start it up and back it out of the bay.

When I turned the key, I almost shat myself as the motor came to life! I reved the car while still parked in the bay just to hear it echo off of the walls of the garage and it almost brought tears of joy to my eyes!

I've heard them on other stangs before and I had to have that sound. These are not as loud as the other flows on the inside and drone is minimal. As for the outside sound, let's just say I froze my balls off due to riding with the windows down in the middle of a Detroit winter just to hear the exhaust roar!
I love the way stock sounded, but these are about twice as loud than stock on the outside and sound miles better.

I always hear everyone knocking people for buying flows because everyone with a stang has them. Well, now I know why everyone buy these things. I do understand about others trying to be different and give their stang a unique sound, because that's what I wanted to do. But, in my searching of different exhaust systems, the flowmaster sound pissed on the rest of the competition in terms of sound! I see a prochamber or dr. gas in my future!

Next stop, parking deck :nice:

Can't really tell any power difference honestly. It sure doesn't feel like I lost any though. Maybe when they break in I'll feel an increase. There was a weird smell coming out of them upon the first driving session with them.

They sound about the same on the outside as the regular 40s, but on the inside, the lack of drone on the supers is like a night and day contrast to the older flows which have more pronounced drone. On top of that, they are supposed to flow better than the old ones. I don't know how they managed this but I'm glad they did.

I will try to get a power measurement on the sotp dyno the next time I drive to see if it feels like I gained anything! The first time I drove it, I was paying more attention to the sound than the power increase! (it just sound's sooooooo good :D )

there was an article/conspiracy a little while ago that said that the super 40's are the same exact thing as the regular 40's. some guy ordered super 40's and it was the same part # as the delta's.

Yeah, I researched that before I bought them. What I've found was that there are four generations of the two chamber muffer.

1. the original dronemasters

2. the delta flows w/ 4" X 9.75" muffler (included on AT catback and can be purchased separately in aluminum or stainless)

3. delta flows w/ 5" X 10" aluminum muffler only seen on newer stock of AT catback and cannot be purchased separately unless you opt for the black case design! :D (see #4)

4. super 40 w/ 5" X 10" muffler (the same thing as above but painted black)

Basically, the early catbacks included the smaller delta muffler and the newer ones have the bigger super 40 muffler(but not painted black). So depending on how old the stock is at your dealer, you might receive either muffler on the catback.

What flowmaster didn't (misleadingly) tell you is that they switched to the super 40 muffler on the AT catback in mid generation. That is why there is so much confusion.

The super 40 WAS a new product FIRST on the newer AT catbacks but it was just called a delta 40. Then, they painted them black and called them Super and introduced them to you to be purchased separately from the catback.

So if you have the AT catback, measure the muffler's case to see if you already have the super 40 (5" X 10") before you buy them. If your AT catback is a few years old, you probably don't have the supers.

hope this helps clear up some confusion :nice:

"Some guy" would be me. I ordered the Super 40s directly through Flowmaster and was dissapointed when I noticed they were the same exact mufflers already in my American Thunder catback. The part # is 952548. Mossberg did a fine job of explaining everything. :nice:

excellent choice!

:nice: I love my Deltaflow 40 series mufflers!

You said that "everyone buys flows" . . . I beg to differ. I think that's internet mustang folklore. :rlaugh: If you took a poll of modular mustangs, I'd bet the bulk of these stangs (with an aftermarket CB or muffler) do not have flows. I have not even seen/heard a 99+ stang in my area with flows besides my own!

I think the whole "everyone had Flowmasters"-thing is a bunch o crap too. Around here, most Mustangs are owned by either old men or women who keep them as stock as they day they rolled off the assembly line. There are warmed-over Foxes around here, but all the SN95 and newer GTs are pretty blah.

i guess it depends on where you live.i'm in miami, florida and most guys here have flowmasters, even the ones tuned by steeda and most of the guys who attend car meets and car clubs as well.just my 2 cents.

Mossberg sounds like a Flows rep..lol :))...

Nope, I'm just an informed consumer trying to make sure no foreign objects are inserted behind me upon purchase! :nono:

Most guys I hear around Detroit have flows. Even when I lived in Florida for a few years, the guys mostly had flows down there too.

Question for you - I have a bone stock 2003 GT and want the flowmaster sound, but I also do not want it to loud on the inside because I enjoy listening to the radio. I am currently torn between the delta 40s and the super 40s. the only modification will be the muffler. How loud are the super 40s compared to the delta 40s?

same muffler except for the color..same exact internal chambers

Not totally true. On the standalone mufflers the deltas and supers are indeed different. But on the newer delta catback (amer thunder), the silver muffs are indeed the supers. Keep in mind that this is only on the NEWER catbacks.

So if you are going with weld-ins, you want to make sure you get the supers in the black case. If going with the catback, make sure it is one of the newer runs from the flowmaster factory (it should have the muffler with the bigger case).

You should have no worries about hearing your radio with these as they are pretty quiet inside. Outside is much louder than stock. I am thinking about changing my midpipe for more sound since sometimes the supers aren't loud enough for me.
