Super 40s Installed!...(review enclosed)

Can't really tell any power difference honestly. It sure doesn't feel like I lost any though. Maybe when they break in I'll feel an increase. There was a weird smell coming out of them upon the first driving session with them.

They sound about the same on the outside as the regular 40s, but on the inside, the lack of drone on the supers is like a night and day contrast to the older flows which have more pronounced drone. On top of that, they are supposed to flow better than the old ones. I don't know how they managed this but I'm glad they did.

I will try to get a power measurement on the sotp dyno the next time I drive to see if it feels like I gained anything! The first time I drove it, I was paying more attention to the sound than the power increase! (it just sound's sooooooo good )

Yeah, I researched that before I bought them. What I've found was that there are four generations of the two chamber muffer.

1. the original dronemasters

2. the delta flows w/ 4" X 9.75" muffler (included on AT catback and can be purchased separately in aluminum or stainless)

3. delta flows w/ 5" X 10" aluminum muffler only seen on newer stock of AT catback and cannot be purchased separately unless you opt for the black case design! (see #4)

4. super 40 w/ 5" X 10" muffler (the same thing as above but painted black)

Basically, the early catbacks included the smaller delta muffler and the newer ones have the bigger super 40 muffler(but not painted black). So depending on how old the stock is at your dealer, you might receive either muffler on the catback.

What flowmaster didn't (misleadingly) tell you is that they switched to the super 40 muffler on the AT catback in mid generation. That is why there is so much confusion.

The super 40 WAS a new product FIRST on the newer AT catbacks but it was just called a delta 40. Then, they painted them black and called them Super and introduced them to you to be purchased separately from the catback.

So if you have the AT catback, measure the muffler's case to see if you already have the super 40 (5" X 10") before you buy them. If your AT catback is a few years old, you probably don't have the supers.

Nope, I'm just an informed consumer trying to make sure no foreign objects are inserted behind me upon purchase!

Most guys I hear around Detroit have flows. Even when I lived in Florida for a few years, the guys mostly had flows down there too.

Not totally true. On the standalone mufflers the deltas and supers are indeed different. But on the newer delta catback (amer thunder), the silver muffs are indeed the supers. Keep in mind that this is only on the NEWER catbacks.

So if you are going with weld-ins, you want to make sure you get the supers in the black case. If going with the catback, make sure it is one of the newer runs from the flowmaster factory (it should have the muffler with the bigger case).

You should have no worries about hearing your radio with these as they are pretty quiet inside. Outside is much louder than stock. I am thinking about changing my midpipe for more sound since sometimes the supers aren't loud enough for me.
