Super or Turbo Chargers? What do you all prefer????

dude you just opened up a can of worms. everyones lacing up the gloves and about to start hitting each other. And hell, Ive never be known to step up to the bat and not swing so here is my 2 cents:
Supercharger. In my opinion, its a much easier process. no custom tubing. bolting on to a stock motor is a-ok. Less money down the road. With turbos, it seems the second you up the boost, **** breaks faster than with a s/c. Now,im not saying if you up the boost on the s/c nothing will break, but turbos are more famous. You need a really good tune with a turbo. you need a little less of a tune with a s/c. Granted turbos make more power, im a belt driven fan all the way!!

Turbos are not much harder to tune than s/c'rs.

I personally like turbos over S/C'rs and I do have both on 2 different vehicles.

I like getting more power per psi via TURBO than a S/C. A S/C will lose about 10% of the power it will produce at the crank. Turbos will not, although it is technically "free" power... there can be power loss as well if you use the wrong type of turbos and wrong type of exhaust that will create excessive backpressure... then you LOSE power.

But anyway... nothing beats the whistle of a turbo/twin turbo's.

I will continue later, I have to RUNNNNNNNNNNN.

My one cent is..
turbo is the way to go..yeah you got lag but yet it all makes up for it once its wound up.. now the turbo kits have more tubes and crap that gets in the way.. IMO I think if you go turbo you have to do two..Superchargers are a way easier setup. almost almost like bolting on a head..which is definatly a good thing..OOH and turbos are way cheaper... I found two kits for under 200 bucks not including the tubing.. just the turbo, intercooler, and wastegate.. heck I cant get a supercharger for under 1600.00..

Turbo kits for 200 bucks?? better keep that a secret or everyone on the board will have one.

My vote is that superchargers are simpler to me anyways.......If I had unlimited funds then I would go turbo but for under 2000 I can get a complete super kit (used) and bolt it on a day. I am not good enough yet to fabricate a turbo setup from the junkyard so until then I am gonna have to pass on the 4000 turbo kits.

Supercharges have lag, turbos when set up right will hit 10-12psi by 3k and a s trim will take up to 4500 to make that amount of boost, trubos will also produce much tq in the mid and top end then a supercharger will. The choise is clear turbo

I agree with the going turbo.. 200 bucks is a junk yard setup off an eclipse.. I found another setup off a civic with a blown engine at the junk yard. too .. Sorry for posting my newbe thought on the board.. I might be new to the board, but my car tells my story.. :(

Yea turbos are way better. The only reason I went with a blower is because I didnt have to cut or modify ANYTHING on my original 93 cobra. If it was any other mustang, you know I would have gone with a turbo.

I wish both my cars were turbo, and ive had a blower on one of them already.

WTF is lag? were talking about v8's here, not 4 bangers! Full boost comes on just as quick as you can nail the throttle. Ide like to see that with an S-trim, or Procharger.
(Kenny bell's are nice, but seem to be h/p limited)

My twin turbo 94 has boost (6psi at 2200psi) and continues to climb to 15psi to 5800rpm.

Turbo is the way to go, and some of you have expressed the proper PRO's to turbo's.

If you have the right turbo for your application and CI and basic power output of the engine, you do not have to worry about lag whatso-ever.

My damn 97 Cobra doesnt have ANY boost until 5k!!!

It is REDICULOUS!

I love my 94 and will NEVER ever let it go.

And like I said before, turbos MAKE MORE HP per PSI than any S/Cer ever will. One thing is the turbo must be in the proper size catagory for the application.... for example you cant stick a T3 from a small 4cyl and use it as a SINGLE turbo, simply because it will not provide the proper CFM airflow and the air will be WAY TOO HOT for the combustion chamber.

where did these dumbass newBs come from with their ignorant posts?

lol no kidding.

Turbo VS Superchargers is a long lived debate that will never have a clear cut answer on which one is better. I do know that buying a turbo Kit VS a Supercharger kit is alot diffrent. I know of a few people that I know or talk to that have bought turbos and it took FOREVER for them to get there kits b/c good realible turbo kits for Mustangs are still fairly new. I know of someone else who just bought a S/C and within a week and a half it was sitting at the door step after being shipped across the country and being polished. You can have alot more headaches w/ a turbo kit b/c there all custom built. Overall you cant go wrong w/ either I respect anyone w/ a turbo or SC under the hood.

First ya gotta ask yourself what you want out of it....if all you want is around 300-400 horsepower with easy install...then go supercharger....if you want as much horsepower as possible and install is not a problem...then go turbo...

I'll probably go Kenne Bell because my car is mainly a daily street car and I love low end torque.

A turbocharger is much more efficient than a supercharger. More power can be produced per the same amount of boost. I prefer superchargers. :D

Superchargers are easier to install, not that a turbo is too terribly difficult. Lag is more prominent in a turbocharger, but as someone said before, lag is almost non existant in a V8. With a turbo, you have to worry about the pipes, and it could make your car a nightmare to work on. Do I have a real reason to not like a turbo, no not really. They just aren't "my thing."

I'm all motor.

"One thing is the turbo must be in the proper size catagory for the application"

First I will confess I have had neither. My extra power was previously supplied through a bottle in my coupe, so I can't give advice from first hand experience.

Just this week I was debating on which I should go with. I chose a S/Cer. I dealt with Bob, a dealer in my town, when trying to make the decision. For X amount of money I could buy a S/Cer that would be capable of getting me into the 10s easy and then some. Then I ask him well I know turbos are a lil more expensive but what am I looking at to get a turbo setup that will do the same thing for me, and again not that I am really considering it because of the cost but I am just curious. I quickly went back to talking about the final details on getting the S/Cer when he told me the number which was 3 times the amount of the supercharger.

I frequent the local tracks often, and again not from personal experience, but from watching people Turbos definately are very powerful and if money was no object, I would probably go turbo but alas I am but a poor boy in comparison.

note: I have had this car for 4+- weeks, so it probably seems silly to see me say I am shooting for 10s. I will admit that is my goal. However I have ordered the S/Cer but will not be installing it until I get alot of the minor things done first for preperation. I just know if I didn't order it while I had the cash I would have bought all the minor items and then ended up putting juice on it, which I would prefer not to do but instead run boost.
