So I bought a 91 Lx 5.0 5 speed last month with 114k. Motor is very strong and is all stock never been opened. I have added a SLP catback, msd cap, blaster coil, wires, besides this its basically a stocker (for now) I am in the process of buy this kit by at least next week.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986...ewItemQQcategoryZ33741QQitemZ8043185371QQrdZ1.

It is the 6lb kit. my question is what else should I consider when I install this? I will have around $500 on top of this to fool around with so what else should I purchase to make this supercharger perform its best? I am not looking for ground shaking power just somthing to play around with and 6lbs sounds fun enough for me. I am pretty new to the supercharging world so maybe a crash course would be nice or any comments.

One more thing I will be changing out my valve cover gaskets tommrow, I have the fel pro advanced auto parts gaskets. Where and how much silicone should I put on the gaskets when installing.

You would be best to get:
-> 36 or 42 lb injectors (Ford Racing)
-> 255 lph fuel pump (Walbro)
-> Pro-M 80mm MAF (you could do the C&L 80mm Tuner MAF to save some money, but people often have issues with them)

That would probably be the bare minimum to get.

Upgrading gaskets is always a good idea.

Stock throttle body, heads, and intake manifold are going to be bottlenecks with the boost of the blower. Since you said you have about $500 to toss around, you can't afford to upgrade these just yet if you get those "mandatory" items up above.

I have been researching supercharging/turbocharging for 2 years - finally placed my order for a Paxton Novi 1000 this past week. If you have any questions, I can try to answer them. I will subscribe to this thread in case you respond with more questions.

Well like i said I do have around 500 bucks but this is just until next month I was just going to order some extra stuff with the S/C. The kit comes with either a FMU or a 255 fuel pump. I was told since 6lbs is all I will be running I would not need to upgrade injectors, pump, or even MAF that the FMU will take care of everything and there will be no need to drop out my tank if I do decide to get the fmu instead. I was more leaning towards a cobra intake/throttlebody either or headers and x-pipe to go with catback. Like I said this will sometimes be a daily driver so I do not want somthing exotic I would like to keep the stock injectors and pump and still be able to have them work or will they? So if I do order headers and x-pipe with the S/C this week will it all bolt up and work with my stock intake, injectors ect with the FMU? So next month if all this works out I will just order the cobra, TB, and a MAF and since i will not be upgrading the injectors should I go with what size TB and MAF?

The stock fuel pump should be changed for something capable of moving more fuel -- when you add the boost, you'll need more fuel than the stock pump can reliably deliver.

With a 114k engine - I'd run cranking compression checks to be sure everything looks good cylinder to cylinder. And with boost on a high mile engine, I'd pull the heads, install some boost friendly head gaskets and a set of ARP studs instead of bolts. That will assure that the head/block interface stays all sealed up. The exhaust system changes you're considering should help -- you're pumping it in with boost; anything you can do to help get it out should make things nicer.

I would go with the lightning 90MM MAF and 42lb. inj. Buy Ford Racing has them both on sale for 319$ in a kit. If you decide to go this route you will probrably need another 300-500 bucks for some one to tune it. It will save you money in the long run if you can avoid tuning with the FMU. There are many tuners within 1 hour of where I live and only 1 was willing to tune with the FMU. I went with a SCT chip for the tune because it seems to be the most popular with the tuners in my area. good luck and have fun.

Look at my combo, I'm running the 6PSI vortech kit, I'm running fine with no problems at all, I did freshen up my bottom end before I put on the supercharger, I actually had a powerdyne for about 6 months and switched to a Vortech, I know there are alot of opinions, for a street driver buy the vortech unit. If you choose go vortech (which from summit is only $1849 shipped) and you do not like noise I suggest you get their quiet version because mine is kinda loud, but i prefer it that way. Put it on, tune it up right and you should have no probs, I'm with Yount , upgrade the fuel pump.

You can put some around the holes if you want, but I used the fel-pro gaskets on mine a while back, never put anything besides just the gasket back on, and never had any problems or leaks.

Yea like criticman said I am wanting the FMU route so I do not have to drop the tank, it isnt that I am not compitant enough, but I do live in the city away from home for college and will be doing this in a parking lot so I do not want to drop the tank. I am not wanting to get rid of the injectors either just a setup that is going to be decent on the fuel gauge.

that seems like a pretty damn good deal. I think I might purchase one of those in the near future as well.

Anyone know what kind of power I'd be pushing with 6 and 9 PSI? Enough to strain the block? I'd probably go the FMU route as well.

Also, what size injectors, MAF, and TB should I look into for my combination?

If you go the 9psi route, do not use the FMU only - upgrade injectors, MAF, TB.

Looking at your present setup, with 9psi I'd guess 400ish RWHP. The 65mm TB would likely be fine and you already have a nice top end. The fuel pump could probably stand to be upgraded at that psi, but I would up your injectors for sure.

Just to give you an idea on pricing...I managed to find a Novi 1000 AND Pro-M 80mm MAF, both brand new, for $1850 shipped. If you shop around, there are tons of amazing deals out there. If you don't like the price you see on the site or in the magazine ad, call up the shop and see if they can work with you on the price a bit.

Wow, thanks for the quick answer. :)

If I did go 9 PSI, what size on the injectors, MAF, and TB? Someone else earlier up the thread was mentioning the Lightning deal with the 90mm MAF and 42# injectors. Assuming I went with that, would it be too big? Also, TB? 70? 75?

I also notice on that ebay deal that they offer Bypass Valves, SCT chips, and an optional Power Pipe that they claim would be worth an extra 2 PSI - worth buying?

Injectors: 36 to 42#
MAF: Pro-M 80mm MAF OR the Lightning MAF (but you will need the harness off of a 4.6L vehicle from what I read on Corral).
TB: Match it to your upper intake inlet. For example, my Cobra upper could accept up to 70mm...so I went with a 70mm Accufab
In terms of "too big" - injectors can be "too big" but the MAF, properly calibrated, really can't be.

If you are doing 9 psi, a bypass valve is a good idea - reduces wear on the blower and throttle body.

I wouldn't waste money for the chip online - get it all installed, then go to a dyno tuner and have them burn you a chip specific to your output on the dyno.

Powerpipe can see that kind of boost increase, but only if the blower is doing about 9 psi to start. I have seen 6 psi kits get pushed to 8 psi with the pipe though. UPR makes a "powerpipe" called a BoostMaster Pipe for about $100 less. That is what I ordered and have here waiting for the blower kit to arrive.

I hope that helps.

Lol, thanks again for the quick reply. :D

One more question for you:

I went and found the specs for my cam online - is this a boost-friendly camshaft?

221/223° duration at .050, .509/.509 in. lift with a 107° lobe separation

If not, what would you recommend for a good blower cam?

Heh, that is a question I can't give you a good reply to. Sorry. I know that the stock cam is supposed to be fairly good for s/c setups - good low end torque is key with a centrifugal to get you going before you hit a decent boost level. I'm sure someone else can give you better specs.
