finally got the 89 notch back up and running but am having some issues. the car is surging real bad  the idle will settle in then next thing it is up and down then it will die I have the timing set at 13deg but when I put the timing plug back in the timing only goes up to 15deg. I thought the timing jumped up more than that when the plug was put back in plus it is an aod car so when I put it in gear it will die unless I get on the throttle and keep it running
the combo is very simple so I am getting pissed. The combo is T/F 1 cam, T/F R intake, GT40X heads, I have plugged the hole for the pcv and am just runnuning a vent on the valve cover, I put in new O2 sensers I am tired so later any input on this would be very nice and appreciated thanks

No vacuum leaks right? It should work great, just fire it up and put some miles on it.

Nate:nice:

I pulled the upper plenum off again to make sure that is what I am thinking as well plus I talked to jon and he was trying to help over the phone and that is what we came up with. I believe that the upper is not going tight because an interference with the fuel rail I think so I have a 1" spacer coming and I am also putting the pcv back on so we will see what happens tomorrow since I have to work tonight

i do not see how that could be a leak since everthing is pluged but I did put the pcv system back on plus i have a catch can in the line to catch any oil that always seems to get pulled thru

the pcv valve is plumbed into the intake manifold right? that vacuum from the intake is pulling the oil vapors (and air) out of the crankcase and into the intake to be burned. the other side of the pcv system is the inlet plumbed into the intake tube before the throttle body but after the MAF. thus the air being pulled thru the crankcase has already been metered and is expected my the engine. if you have the nipple on the intake tube capped and a breather filter on the valve cover youre sucking unmetered air thru the pcv valve.

catch can is the way to go. keeps things nice and clean in there.:nice:

or ditch the PCV completely and run a filter on the valve cover. have to go all the way or none.

I'd also double check your TPS once you're sure you have all the vac leaks handled. Unhook the IAC, set idle roughly with the throttle stop screw a little lower than where you want it. Adjust tps after this and then reconnect the IAC.

hey man i've run c&l's and so have my buddies.....its been a mixed bag as far as results. You should first make sure you have no vac leaks, set your base timing and idle correctly then clock your maf sensor. No need for a multimeter at first. Just rotate it and see if it improves......we did that to my friends car and mine and it got better. Then we busted out the multimeter and dialed in the signal voltage.

when I had the pcv valve removed what I do is run a boat plug in the back of the manifold, cap the vacum elbow on the throttle body, and run a breather on the valve cover. I found the leak and that was that the upper intake was not sitting flush so I have a 1" spacer now and that resolved alot of it, I rechecked the the bolts the other day and retightened them plus I think the bolts on the T/B was a touch to long so I resolved that I have set my tps and my timing but when I drop it in gear it dies now I am thinking that maybe the problem is the fact that I have the stock tourqe converter so the motor drags it down hard and it is not recovering fast enough and I am not sure if the IAC is working properly or not so I need to check that next thanks alot for the input

I am not running a cold air intake kit so I do not know if that will help but he I am willing to try anything so thanks
